  1. Is it true that Florida just approved the "use" of AA's also? Thought I heard this in class the other day-must confess I haven't had time to confirm this. Loisane, from your posts my impression is that you are very proactive-so I'm looking for some advice...What "specifically" ( I need action statements :) ) can we as students, soon-to-be CRNAs, do to voice our opinions to support the position of CRNAs in the face of AAs? Thanks! Jedav
  2. Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied and give you an update...It ended up that all of my cases that were D&C/D&E resulted from situations other than that of "elective termination"...nonetheless, I am sure that I will encounter this scenario eventually and I feel more adequately prepared in my response. Thanks again, Jedav
  3. Here is the situation-I am a junior SRNA and I'm doing OB tomorrow. It looks like some of my cases may be abortions-haven't been in this situation yet. Are students "frowned upon" if they aren't comfortable performing these cases? Honestly, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it-I'm still contemplating the issue. I hope to get some insight from current students or experienced CRNAs who have been in this situation already-how you handled it, thoughts, etc... Thanks! Jedav (P.S. I am a "converted" Catholic)
  4. Thank you everybody for your informative and timely responses! As always, above and beyond and very helpful!!! Interesting in that it is believed to be the metabolite of the drug that is effective here-I hadn't heard that before. Loisane, I printed out that article and will read as I drift off tonight! Thanks again, Jamie;)
  5. Hi All, Haven't posted in awhile-started clinicals in January...Sorry Have a question- What is the rationale behind using decadron with zofran in PONV. The info I found was limited and not very helpful. It appears that the MOA of decadron in this instance is unknown??? Is that correct? Any other resources out there on this would be greatly appreciated ( or just a "point" in the right direction). Also, if you practice this method-what doses have you used? Thanks to all! Jamie
  6. A CRNA friend of mine just sent me a copy of the book "Silenced Screams"...a very interesting read as I will be starting clinical in January. Too bad I missed the special on TV...
  7. Craig, Just wanted to tell you how much your blog will be missed...I started reading it several months ago as I was preparing to go to school and found it very informative and enjoyable. In many ways, my own experiences were mirrored by yours and that was pretty cool. In anticipation of starting clinicals in January-knowing how busy I am now, I can understand why you must choose precisely where to spend each minute. Don't beat yourself up about readjusting your priorities! I hope that you continue to "check in" here and let us know how things are going...Good luck! Jamie
  8. Szoozoo, I attend a school in western PA and for the first semester the actual class days are only Thursday and Friday-all day. (Studying time additional;) ). With that being said, the second semester kicks it up a few notches and is Monday-Friday with 2 days of clinical and 3 days class. I noticed that you are in Ohio so feel free to PM me if you have any questions! Good Luck!
  9. Qwiigley, The question is often asked "why do you want to be a CRNA?" and as I read your post tonight I "felt" your answer- I could see myself answering in a similar way. I will be starting school in the fall and for me, it is hearing things like this that whisper "you're doing the right thing" -Thanks for sharing! Jamie;)
  10. For diarrhea predominant IBS, NuLev PRN has worked well for me! It is an antispasmodic (like Levsin) that helps with the cramping and urgency issues that go with IBS. There are other prescription products available, too. For diarrhea predominant -LOTRONEX ( is available again with some restrictions from FDA) ; for constipation predom. -ZELNORM. These products work specifically at the level of serotonin receptors in the gut only (believed to be the root of the problem)=very effective overall for all symptoms related to IBS. Hope this helps!
