Do you consider your hairstyle to be an important part of your uniform or just a luxury?

Even more importantly, is it tax deductible? ;)

I figure since our employers want us to have a certain look, everything mentioned in our handbooks should be tax-deductible as a part of our uniform. Including the hair. ;)

Between cuts, perms, and coloring, I spend about $300 yearly. My natural hair is limp, thin, and graying.

And is it just me, or do we seem to get better performance evals from patients and bosses, due to our appearance?

wow. i spend a lot more than that.

$80 every 3 months for color; $150 every 6 months to straighten; $25 every 3 months for a cut. probably another 50-100 a year on hair-care products.

i sure do wish it was tax-deductable. unfortunately, my natural hair (curly blonde) meets the requirements set out in our handbook, so i can't use that excuse.

i voted for luxury. if i was really hurting for money, i'd buy cheep shampoo, go to supercuts, and go back to my natural hair color/texture.

I spend way more than that too. Every 5 weeks I get it dyed, highlighted and then cut every two months or so. I try hard NOT to buy the really expensive shampoo/conditioner and look for the stuff that helps color NOT fade ON SALE!! :D

There are no requirements on hair where I work.

Color every three weeks. Don't like to think about it but probably close to $2000 a year. Absolute necessity.

A cut and blow dry come to about £35 every 6 weeks, plus more if coloured. I used to have it coloured at the salon, but that worked out to about £100 a time, every 6 weeks. Now I colour it myself at home for a fraction of that cost. The salon shampoos are lovely and do last a long time but cost the earth so I tend to buy that from the supermarket to save money.

Stanley, I've honestly thought about that a time or two. The closest I ever came was when I decided to save money by coloring my hair myself and wound up with forest green hair, and then decided that it was too embarrassing to go out to the beauty parlor, so I chopped off as much as I could and hid in the house for a month.

Ahhhh.....good times..... ;)

Colour every six weeks or so (I'm 100% grey) and a trim every three months or so, no product, no hairdryer/straightener, a combination of cheap/on sale shampoo + conditioner and the occasional more lavish Body Shop/Lush/salon variety, the odd elastic band - say $850/year.

I've never figured up how much I spend. I just got a cut yesterday, though, with getting my eyebrows yanked out, and that was $30. When I get it colored, every 4 months or so, I usually get a cut then too, that's about $50. I buy cheap shampoo & conditioner, a not-so-cheap spray gel stuff, natural curl means no perms (never ever once in my life).

I don't spend a lot of time/money on my hair. The color part is the luxury, it keeps the gray covered. I get my eyebrows yanked off (waxed is the technical term) which I consider a necessity; once you're nearsighted and in bifocals doing it yourself is darned near impossible. Even the spray stuff I consider expensive at Wally World is probably cheap to a lot of folks.

Naturally curly hair has probably saved me a fortune and untold hours of time over the years.

That is what I do with my fiance. He was getting it cut every other week. So I got a pair and I sat him in kitchen or outside. He now does it himself, sometimes going wide with mowhawks (sp) etc.
