has anyone heard anything of this new "hopkins" reality tv show coming up this summer on abc? it looks like they follow people at john hopkins to give an inside look at the hospital setting. i'm only worried that they will only focus on the doctors (as usual!). i hope nurses get a fair shake here. the theme song is worrying me...something about "i wanna be your savior..." as if docs need more of a god complex! alas, here's hoping....

Sounds like another show that was on years ago for a couple of months called "Hopkins 24/7".....it was pretty good.

i think the reason producers focus more on the doctors is because people are probably more interested in the diseases and how doctors arise at the conclusion that jane doe has pffifers syndrome, rather than how the nurse implements the orders and cares for the patients.

i would personally not watch a show that follows nurses around -- how boring! :) i think what we do is amazing and nurses are definitely under-appreciated.. but who wants to see a nurse charting, hanging an iv, administering medications, doing assessments, running their butts off...?

if you watch trauma er on discovery health, the nurses are definitely spotlighted.. but that is because they are in with the action when a trauma comes in.

I just Googled Hopkins 24/7 and found that the Discovery Channel is rebroadcasting the first 4 episodes on Sunday nites in July at 10pm. They are going to give updates on the patients featured. Sounds good. I'm going to watch. :)

Cool, thanks!!!

I'll never forget one girl they followed, a teenager with an HMO insurance. She had a tumor that her insurance would not allow to be CT'd on a regular basis or removed. Her physician finally got the CT done at his own cost and by then it had grown so large she was facing a hysto. She was only 16.

This show looks like its going to spotlight more than work, though. They follow them at home and show them with their families. Should be good times.

i personally would love a show to highlight what nurses do. i think it would be fascinating to see the ins and outs of what the deal with. along with bringing more respect and attention to the profession, it would allow nervous to-be's like myself a glimpse into the window. heck, i'd even settle for a scripted "grey's" type show based on nurses at this point! i can just see it -- all the romantic tension and drama between the nurses at the forefront and an occasional iv hang :D

if it was scripted, i think you could do a lot with a show about nurses!

well, after all, all the nurses on Grey's just sleep around.....

Cool, thanks!!!

If this is who you're thinking of, this girl died even before her episode aired, although it was a type of cancer that is seldom curable anyway and so rare, most doctors never see a case of it.

Still no excuse for the insurance company to refuse to pay for NECESSARY treatment!

Does anyone remember "Houston Medical", which aired around the same time (ca. 2000)? The only doctors who were even remotely likable were Dr. Marnie Rose, who was battling brain cancer and died shortly after the series aired, and a deaf physician which a Google search revealed went to my high school, although many years later!

One was a hand surgeon who appeared to be bipolar and in manic phase (and his wife was undergoing fertility treatments, and it was really obvious that SHE wanted a baby to get him to settle down - you'd think a highly educated woman in her 30s would know better!) and another doctor whose wife "is in a hospital hundreds of miles away" but they never said why. Weird.

Which series was the one with the physician who had, for many years, lived in a sleeping room just outside the ER?

Oh! Oh! A sitcom... A Day in the Life...

The first show starts out with your typical TV hospital room inhabited by Mr. Doesn't Look Sick At All. Instead of George Clooney, MD we have Angelina Jolei, RN...

Nurse Jolie is cleaning Mr. Smiths behind for the third time this morning and discussing her love life with the tech...all while the patient is listening and family waiting outside because they don't understand visiting hours.

The patient suddenly erupts -- "Oh no! I can't hold...." and SPASH! Poop EVERYWHERE! All over nurse Jolie, the wall, monitor! Yeah...thats award winning material.

Don't you think? LMAOL:yeah:
