mysterious illness?

I am in need of some help. I do not know where else to turn and I see that alot of the nurses on here talk about illnesses and so on. Maybe someone can give me some insight to my issue.

Since December up until now, I have lost 30 pounds. I am not trying to diet, I gave up on that a long time ago. I am not pregnant, that was ruled out already. I have not been able to eat. I am nauseous because I cannot eat and I cannot eat because I am nauseous. I am lucky if I can eat 1 small meal a day. I have no problem with drinking liquids. Some of the time whatever goes in, does come out. I have been to the doctor many times, have had numerous blood tests and they cannot seem to find anything wrong. I feel physically ill. My muscles hurt, I have fevers/chills. Almost like the flu. I am starting to feel as if my doctor thinks I am crazy coming in there telling him I still am not eating and do not feel well. He said that things look ok since my weight leveled out a week ago. But this morning I was 5 pounds down again.

Can anyone give me any possible reasons for this? I am open to anything told to me.

Thanks!!

I am so sorry for you :o I went through the same thing you describe for 8 months. Every doc thought I was nuts because they couldn't find anything. It ended up being my gallbladder. In the process of it forming 5 boulder sized stones, it was making me sick sick sick! Don't let them call you crazy. Keep going until you find a doc or other health professional who cares. Have you tried a D.O. or an N.P. I have seen thru experience that they can many times find what a doc can't. I pray you're feeling better soon.

I'm so sorry you're going through this :o about 6 years ago when I was in college I experienced something similar - couldn't keep food down or else everything would go right through me. I went from 110 to 90 lbs before my doctor did an upper and lower GI series and found an ulcer. I hope you find the cause soon, it took me 2 years to gain back that 20lbs :o

Good luck

i would think they would have done something as simple as a tsh test. how much weight have you lost and is your doctor aware of how much you've lost? but the bottom line is don't let ANYONE every think that it's in your head. people just say that when they run out of answers.

sherichance,

Usually when there's an unexplained weight loss, especially the amount you have had, it puts up a red flag, because something is definitely brewing. For your sake dear girl, do keep pursuing this thing until you find an answer, and then please let us know what was found. I hope it won't take long for you to learn what it is.

Have you thought about trying out a different physician. Sometimes just a change....someone might look at things differently. I have been there, fatigued, flu symptoms, nausea, etc.....my PCP kept telling me I looked like I needed rest....suggested depression was the cultprit. (HELL YES I AM DEPRESSED DOC, YOU WOULD BE TO IF YOU FELT LIKE THIS!) Made me feel like it was all in my head etc. I went to another doc that someone recommended, she checked a completely different set of labs, etc. Ended up I had mono, and CMV. It was such a relief to know I wasnt crazy or dying from some strange disease etc. Also, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other things like that are hard to diagnose and not all physicians are as educated that these are REAL problems. I would look up even an edocrinologist or other specialtys. Dont give up. I would get a second opinion....

I will be thinking about you. Let us know how you are doing....

Leslie

sorry about my spelling....

If you can not get your MD to give you a referral for the tests you need , you might consider going to the hosp. commander.

Hey, in the military, I usually NEVER saw the same provider. Keep trying to get someone else and if you can't get someone else, just bug the crap out of him until he does order more studies!!!

Yeah, time to advocate even more aggressively for yourself. If the best the doc can do is, I don't know, then you need a referral to an internist, a rheumatologist--somebody! But don't just hover where you are--get back to that doc's office and kick some medical a--!!!

Keep us posted!

I even asked my Pulmonologist if he would take me, (He's such a nice guy)but he refused because he already has too many patients. No lie there.

Thank you for the encouragement everyone. I will be persuing my doctor once again on Friday. Hopefully he will do something more. I will keep you all posted.
