mysterious illness?

I am in need of some help. I do not know where else to turn and I see that alot of the nurses on here talk about illnesses and so on. Maybe someone can give me some insight to my issue.

Since December up until now, I have lost 30 pounds. I am not trying to diet, I gave up on that a long time ago. I am not pregnant, that was ruled out already. I have not been able to eat. I am nauseous because I cannot eat and I cannot eat because I am nauseous. I am lucky if I can eat 1 small meal a day. I have no problem with drinking liquids. Some of the time whatever goes in, does come out. I have been to the doctor many times, have had numerous blood tests and they cannot seem to find anything wrong. I feel physically ill. My muscles hurt, I have fevers/chills. Almost like the flu. I am starting to feel as if my doctor thinks I am crazy coming in there telling him I still am not eating and do not feel well. He said that things look ok since my weight leveled out a week ago. But this morning I was 5 pounds down again.

Can anyone give me any possible reasons for this? I am open to anything told to me.

Thanks!!

Sorry you're going through such misery. I hope you won't be offended by this suggestion, but I'd recommend a psych eval at this point. You could be suffering from depression or a host of other emotional problems that manifest themselves in physical symptoms, and you owe it to yourself to find out.

Good luck. I hope you discover the cause of your illness soon.

have you had or requested maybe an MRI, CAT, etc...to see if anything else might be going on in your body--also,....did they do a CA125--I am just thinking about some things they can possibly miss--as far as a psych eval...I think a lot of your symptomology is real--so, just keep going to the doc until he checks all. best to you, heather/

Your symptoms ring autoimmune to me. I am a regular ole RN, but fevers, joint/muscle aches and weight loss point to something more than mental. Although the mind/body connection is quite strong, you should seek another opinion, possibly an immuneologist/rheumatologist.

Please update us. Hope you get to the bottom of this soon.

I agree with the reumatologist idea.

Also, maybe an abdominal ultrasound. I had similsr symptoms but I also had pian. I got an abdominal ultrasound and found out I had a polyp in my gall bladder. I had lost 15 lbs. in three months and couldn't eat anything without vomiting or being in severe pain. I got my gall bladder out and I am fine now.

Keep searching for an answer and I wish you luck!

I agree with Sharann. You really do need to do this. We want you to be healthy!!! We care about our allnurses friends!!!!

Have you been to any tropical countries like last 2 years? OR have contacted someone whose been to tropical countries. To me those symptoms suggested anything to do with Plasmodium falciparium or vivax. But once the first two questions were NO. Rule that out.

I would agree that you need to continue persuing the medical side of this. I have dual dx of fibro/lupus it has taken forever for them to figure it out. Just this last friday my doc thinks he has it pegged we shall see. But dont give up. We are here for you.

Definately keep persuing it. Don't let them tell you you're crazy. Best of luck, and keep us updated.

You poor dear, I am worried about you. There are a lot of other test besides blood test to do in this situation and previous posters have suggested some of them. It probably would not hurt to have an upper or lower GI to boot.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I really appreciate it. I am tired of feeling so bad.

We are a military family so it is hard to get a CAT scan or MRI. The doctor has to refer you out to get one. But I am sure if I go back some more he will see there is something else that needs to be done.

As far as going to tropical places, I have not been. The doctor even asked me about that.

I will get another doctors appointment here soon. When I get some more answers, I will be sure to post what was done. Thanks everyone!!!
