These polls are soooooo much fun. How much faith do you have in you fellow nurses??? If you were in the hospital and either had surgery or were sick, would you want one of your fellow workers to take care of you????

I have always had surgery in another facility because I tend to be a pretty private person. However if I needed to go to the ER I wouldn't hesitate to go where I work. There are only a few nurses I wouldn't want near me. The majority of my coworkers I would trust with my life.

Sister hospital is my choice.

There are several nurses at the home hospital I'd trust with my lifebut they don't work 24/7

I do NOT trust Medical Records,

I don't think the ER (Level I trauma center) would be my first choice.....UNLESS I had a neurologic injury or severe injury. The have attendings there but MOST of the dx is done by floating residents. The other hospitals have full time ER physicians.

If it was an emergency then i wouldn't care were i was taken as long as i got the right treatment. However if i was able to make a choice then i would go to a different area, not only would i probably be embarassed but i am sure that some of my colleagues would also be embarassed not only for themselves but for me also.

So if i ever had a choice it would certainly be the other area and not the one i work.

I had an outpatient procedure a couple of years ago in the hospital where I used to work, and I had people falling all over each other taking care of me. At first I was embarrassed--it's not easy letting people you work with see your hairy legs and other body parts you don't normally display--but I got over it and actually enjoyed the attention. I tend to be a pain in the butt as a patient, but only because I won't let anyone do stuff for me that I can do myself, e.g. I charted my own I&O and cleaned up the bathroom when I threw up after the procedure. When I have my hyst, however, I'm gonna have to let the nurses take care of me, and I'm glad I'll be where I have friends who do a good job.

I would have no problem letting my staff take care of me. I get along with pretty much everyone, and have seen that when one of our own was a patient, they got extra attention (they are one of 'ours', after all!). The last time I ended up in a hospital (got sideswiped from head-on by a drunk driver, on my bike (the one in the avatar), and at that time, hurt so bad that I didn't care (well, when I was conscious, that is). However, when I was fully aware again, I know that the care was very substandard, it was at a prominent hospital here, but not my facility (thank God. I'd hate to see that level of care in my own place!)

In part, it is what keeps me doing my absolute best, as I'd hate to think I'd do that level of work on my own patients.

I always use our facility! For anything! When I had surgery! They were the best! These are my friends. I've worked there for almost 13 years now! What better care could I ask for? I wasn't embarassed! Just told the OR crew not to make fun of the tats......LOL

I already have. Like said above, when you are sick enough, you don't care as long as your needs are well-looked-after. Privacy is an issue but kinda flies out the window when you are really sick.

I have been a pt in my hospital. I will in the future, too. I like the personal care I get, b/c it is like "she is one of our own"....but I honestly feel we treat all our pts that way.

I teased a new male RN who took care of me the last time I was hospitalized....He had never met me before the stint as a patient. When I came back to work, I walked up to him and said "Hello". He gave me that "Who are you " look. I said my name and added, "What's the matter, Joe? Don't recognize me with my clothes on?" Boy did HIS face get red!! heehee

Couldn't answer your poll because the was not a third choice of "depends on which nurse". Most of my colleagues are very competent, conscientious professionals. A few of them are so flaky, I'd refuse to let them touch me!

As long as I get to specify who! There are some that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy and others that are AWESOME. :D

I would absolutely want some of the nurses on my unit caring for me -- I would want to specify who, however. I've already planned out the staffing for when I have bypass surgery.

The hospital I work at is the only place our insurance takes us. Plus we are the trauma center so I'd be taken there in a trauma. There are some I wouldn't let near me. But for the most part I'd be o.k. with it.
