If tomorrow you had to leave nursing what career would you got to?And do you think your prepared for it and do you think you would be happy doing it?

Specializes in Case Management, Home Health, UM.

Once a nurse, always a nurse. I decided to become a nurse when I was seven. My grandmother was wheelchair-bound (in one of those Civil-War era wheelchairs), with a broken leg. I was busy "waiting" on her, when she pulled me close, gave me a hug and whispered: "You'll make a good nurse". When I asked her what a nurse was, she replied: "They wait on sick people". From that day on, my dream was to become a nurse...and when I was finally told by the Admissions Officer at the School of Nursing that I had been accepted...I cried. The sweet memory of my late grandmother's words, is what keeps me anchored in this profession...and I can't think of anything else I'd rather do.

Specializes in Oncology, Med-Surgical.

That is so sweet CseMgr.....you are the first one I think who posted that you would remain a nurse. Kewl.

I would either be a cop--or go back to bartending. But probably would be a cop.

I would become I truck driver like I wanted to 25 years ago, but my high school counselor talked me out of it because there were not many women truck drivers at that time.

I would be a librarian or a florist. I worked in the local library my senior year in HS on a work/study program and my parents owned a flowershop/greenhouse business all of my life until 12 years ago. My idea of heaven, lots of flowers and lots of books...preferably Nora Roberts. LOL

Specializes in ER.

A bartender- non smoking bar with greasy appetizers and bizarre regular customers then...

a truckdriver with a spaniel on the jump seat and long haul assignments with a bunk in the back (my hermit stage) then

a for- hire serial killer with a killer million dollar mansion on a deserted ocean front and a "panic room" a la Jody Foster. Of course I would pose as the killer's girlfriend and gofer while raking in the dough and body parts myself.

And FYI starting your "to be assasinated" list early on in life is very therapeutic, gives a great sense of power!

Full time voyeur in a college girls tennis class.

Britney Spears personal masseuse

Anna Kournikova's nightmare come true.

A slut. A male whore. A coniving, conartist of an ex-nurse, turned loose on the younger female public.

Something, someone to bring an ounce of reason to those tortured, beautiful bodies basking there on the golden sands of life.

That's what I'd be.

But, instead...I wipe butts of the fat and infamous. The slothen and lazy. I suck blood out of the alcoholic throats of the holiday-time forgotten scum of the earth. How could I EVER want to LEAVE this JOB????????

Mommy took pills and made it allllllllll better. Daddy gave them to her.

Woops. Kinda' went off ona' tangent there, ya' unnerstan'?

Cologne spritzer at Macy's, Filene's, or Lord & Taylors.... just spritz and smile at the customers...

hmm.. second hand clothing store with a little area selling candles that a nieghbor of mine makes that are fantastic, and a little area for my step- daughters unusual hand made fashions lol.. i need a bigger building already!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actively making plans to leave nursing for awhile. I'm going back to school next month to become an elementary ed. teacher. Though, I won't be leaving nursing for close to 2 years. It's not easy to switch careers! LOL! I don't know if I will leave nursing forever, but I need a break for now. I want to do something else. Am I prepared for it? Probably not, but I'll learn the ropes just like anything else in life. And will I be happy doing it? I sure hope so! I think I might like it, so I guess I'll never know until I try it out for real!

My "other" dream job interests would be: working outdoors doing some sort of nature education/public awareness in the National Parks or working with animals (maybe a wildlife rehab facility).

I would like to know what the original poster, kjmta57, would answer to these interesting questions!

Vet tech, law ( I know where the bodies are buried, haha), pharmaceuticle (sp?) sales....I'll stop on my rounds and buy some coffee! Write a book or two or three....write educational material for hospitals.

I love nursing but sometimes wonder if I will stay forever...glad there is so many different areas for me to explore in nursing. I sometimes think I'm a gypsy nurse cuz I wanna try it all!
