  1. I gotta go with Rain on this one. Our hospital policy is they don't go out to smoke. Too many times the doc has gone in to see a patient and they are not in the room, they're out smoking. I agree that we shouldn't waste taxpayer's money, but we shouldn't waste already stretched ER staff either, having to chase a patient down so the doc can assess them or review labs/xrays etc.
  2. Speaking of cigarrettes, what about the ones who want to know if it is ok to go out and smoke while they are waiting for lab results, or waiting for the doctor? (after they get to the room)
  3. ooooh, I would be so tempted to smile for the camera!! (the smile without teeth---mooning) Unfortunately, probably would result in another patient---
  4. Well, there's always the positive samsonite sign.
  5. :rotfl: :rotfl: gotta love em!!!!
  6. Yes, except at the college I went to, (the other bccc), we were required to license as an LPN to continue in the program. We also had to do a summer rotation too, so we ended up with about 4 1/2 semesters of nursing. Some of the programs (like Hutch I think) just go straight to the RN I think. Just curious. :)
  7. Training for me came from out of state. Our county diaster person (I am drawing a total blank on the title right now) mandated a list that was required for us to buy with the grant. We got to decide which company we used etc. We are planning a Level C response with Level B or A coming from the fire department. All of the ordering was done before I went to my training, and my hospital did pretty good. There are just a few more things to add. I am FRO now, would like to be tech level trained, but for now......... I am going to get the ER crew to FRO and a couple from the floor. I would like to get involved with the county HAZMAT response--have the same problem with our county.
  8. Those programs sound really neat, but we are much too small to get something like that. Tried the "in order to take better care of you" approach, then you get, well, I have a blue pill for blood pressure and a pink pill for pain etc..... Gotta luv them, but their med list is with the doc in the clinic. We can pull up an old record, but unless they've been admitted recently or in the ER (with their list) recently it does us no good. Tried helping them make the list to have for next time, ooops, forgot to bring it. Usually we can figure it out one way or another, today sent a family member home to get the list because we had a patient that we NEEDED to know a list of meds. Just a nickel for my thoughts today (thought about all the times that happens and how rich I'd be :chuckle )
  9. I wish I had a nickel for every time a patient presents to the ER with an extensive list of medications, that of course doesn't have the list with them because we have it "on file". HELLO!!!!!!!
  10. Isn't it though? I really dreaded going to the class until I got there, and once we got into it---what a neat area to be involved in. Has anyone from your hospital gone to the cobra training in Alabama? I hear that is really fun--a whole week and at the end, you suit up class A and actually work in a contaminated environment. I would like to go---but can't justify it to my hospital just because I want to go play.
  11. Ahhh, Is it a step program where you license as an LPN?
  12. I don't remember what the NET exactly had on it---but if I remember correctly it was a core of basic knowledge and skill and is a tool--not the final say in predicting success in the nursing program. Good Luck, don't sweat about it --I am sure you'll do fine. :) :) ksrnstudent are you in bccc as in Barton?
  13. I just attended a HAZMAT training last week. COOL COOL COOL!!! I am going to start on the policies for our facility soon, and am doing the training for the whole hospital. Any input?
  14. Demerol only? Ouch!!! In our ER it is not done --- they go to OR. I can't imagine any of our docs even WANTING to do them in ER.
  15. Well, ummm, Maybe he was so endowed of that particular anatomy that it hung down that far?? :imbar Or maybe it was just a really tall toity.
