  1. Stupid things coworkers say

Now, this isn't meant to be mean or downing anyone, but sometimes the people you work with say some really dumb things that are worth sharing. We had a patient that was being dismissed after being admitted as a 23 hour observation. The nurse that wa...
  2. Cmon Guys

Where are all you guys at?? I know that there's got to be more Kansans on the board than this!!!!!!
  3. HAZMAT for healthcare

I just attended a HAZMAT training last week. COOL COOL COOL!!! I am going to start on the policies for our facility soon, and am doing the training for the whole hospital. Any input?
  4. I wish I had a nickel for........

I wish I had a nickel for every time a patient presents to the ER with an extensive list of medications, that of course doesn't have the list with them because we have it "on file". HELLO!!!!!!!
  5. I wish I had a nickel for........

I gotta go with Rain on this one. Our hospital policy is they don't go out to smoke. Too many times the doc has gone in to see a patient and they are not in the room, they're out smoking. I agree that we shouldn't waste taxpayer's money, but we sh...
  6. I wish I had a nickel for........

Speaking of cigarrettes, what about the ones who want to know if it is ok to go out and smoke while they are waiting for lab results, or waiting for the doctor? (after they get to the room)
  7. I wish I had a nickel for........

ooooh, I would be so tempted to smile for the camera!! (the smile without teeth---mooning) Unfortunately, probably would result in another patient---
  8. I wish I had a nickel for........

Well, there's always the positive samsonite sign.
  9. I wish I had a nickel for........

    :rotfl: :rotfl: gotta love em!!!!
  10. Taking the NET

Yes, except at the college I went to, (the other bccc), we were required to license as an LPN to continue in the program. We also had to do a summer rotation too, so we ended up with about 4 1/2 semesters of nursing. Some of the programs (like Hutch...
  11. HAZMAT for healthcare

Training for me came from out of state. Our county diaster person (I am drawing a total blank on the title right now) mandated a list that was required for us to buy with the grant. We got to decide which company we used etc. We are planning a Lev...
  12. I wish I had a nickel for........

Those programs sound really neat, but we are much too small to get something like that. Tried the "in order to take better care of you" approach, then you get, well, I have a blue pill for blood pressure and a pink pill for pain etc..... Gotta luv ...
  13. HAZMAT for healthcare

Isn't it though? I really dreaded going to the class until I got there, and once we got into it---what a neat area to be involved in. Has anyone from your hospital gone to the cobra training in Alabama? I hear that is really fun--a whole week and ...
  14. Taking the NET

Ahhh, Is it a step program where you license as an LPN?
  15. Taking the NET

I don't remember what the NET exactly had on it---but if I remember correctly it was a core of basic knowledge and skill and is a tool--not the final say in predicting success in the nursing program. Good Luck, don't sweat about it --I am sure you'...
  16. Eagle Med

A week ago today was the Eagle Med 4 fixed wing crash. My heart is going out to the families, coworkers and comrades of those 3 people.
  17. D&C's in the ER?

Demerol only? Ouch!!! In our ER it is not done --- they go to OR. I can't imagine any of our docs even WANTING to do them in ER.
  18. obsessive neatnick??

I am the coordinator of a very small ER. Sometimes I wonder if I am not just too anal or too much of a neat nick. I cannot stand to see monitor cords on the floor, or things out of place. I can't stand to see anything out of it's place. I am very...
  19. Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!

Well, ummm, Maybe he was so endowed of that particular anatomy that it hung down that far?? :imbar Or maybe it was just a really tall toity.
  20. Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!

OOHH but ya gotta admit THAT HAD TO HURT!!!!! :uhoh21:
  21. Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!

I saw someone come in by ambulance for an itching foot once.
  22. Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!

I learned a good way to assess if the syncope is fake or real (of course the more dramatic the faint the less likely it is to be real) Hold their hand up in the air over their face---amazingly the fake faints alway seem to miss their faces. No matt...
  23. ER vs ICU, how did we get there?

Now Tom, I am sure that you knew the exact minute that lady was going to code and timed it just perfect to make sure that you had her in ICU just at the right minute. LOL We work very well with ICU, and frequently ICU and ER nurses float back and ...
  24. Very Scary

That's when you grab the doc by the collar and drag him in to look at the patient---or do as I did and look him in the face and say very calmly--are you going to let this patient code before you do something? Usually that will bring them running.
  25. Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!

Don't you know that playdough is part of a balanced diet?? :rotfl: I know what you mean about the prenatal care part. We get a few of those too.
