Low morale at my new hospital job....
Good morning everyone! I am a nurse with about eleven years experience in different settings...hospitals, home health and nursing homes. I decided after working a couple years in the nursing home to go back to the hospital. Well, the hospital I got hired at that's five minutes away, huge plus..is brand new. When I interviewed with the manager of the unit, she had warned me that morale might be kinda low because they were short staffed. I already oriented on days a couple times, and didn't really notice low morale. Last night was my first time orienting on evenings and I did notice alot more low morale and alot of nurses talking about other nurses not doing this or that, and it really kinda disappointed me. Does anyone else deal with this? I don't want to get discouraged and start hating my job or anything. Is there a way to keep a positive attitude in a basically negative environment? thanks so much and Happy Friday!!! Amy

Going back to the hospital after being in LTC for two years...
Hi, I've been a nurse since 2001, worked in the hospital on a med-surg/oncology unit about six years ago, then switched to some agency nursing, home health and the last two years have been in LTC. A new hospital just opened up by my house and I applied and low and behold, got the job! It's part time on a med-surgical unit and I'm wondering what's the best way to "refresh" my memory after not being in the hospital for quite some time now. I mean, we had some heavy patients at the nursing home, but I just feel that I will be a little rusty...any advice or ideas on where to get a quick refresher course? Thanks!!!!

What are the chances.....
Oh yes, I plan to self report, that's not really the question I have. I'm getting all these questions from others like my therapist and family if I will be actually prosecuted and have charges brought against me. I didn't know if I went through the whole self reporting and monitoring for however many years that would take the place of that. I haven't heard of many nurses actually being seperately prosecuted for diverting, but you never know. Thanks for your reply!

What are the chances.....
of being "prosecuted" for diverting at work? I was caught at work a little while ago, and got a call today from my job stating they had to report it and gave me the phone number for my state assistance program for nurses. Is this a good sign? I have put a call in and am waiting to hear back. If my employer is going to "report" me to the BON, do I wait to hear from them or do I "self report" myself? I'm pretty confused on what this will all mean to me and my license but I'm taking one day at a time. I'm also going to daily meetings, I have a sponsor and am working the steps to the best of my ability. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! I could use some support right now!` Thanks!

Work in ER first?
I'm being told by someone who I'm talking with about the SANE nurse program that I should work in the ER first and get some experience there. I am a Med-Surg nurse with a background also in Oncology, going on 7yrs. What's everyone's opinion on this? Is it necessary? And how would you suggest, if it is the way to go, how can I get a job in the ER without experience? Can I take an ACLS course for starters? Any suggestions would really help! Thanks!!!! Anyone take an online CPR recertification course?
So is it legit or what? I just wrote to another CPR/BLS provider and she wants to charge me $50.00 just to recertify when I already paid these people $30.00!! I will have to call my place of employment on Monday to see if they will indeed accept this card. I do think that they will want me to follow up with some type of hands on training. Thanks!! Amy

Anyone take an online CPR recertification course?
YEP!!! I did find out this was a scam. Thanks, but I already lost my money on them. Why are these CPR classes so dang expensive? $50 to recertify? I found one near home but have to wait until Tuesday to take it. No work until then I guess. Thanks all for the advice. And be WARNED of the online scams. I didn't find out until it was too late. Amy

Hello, I printed it off and it looks pretty legit. I'm going to fax it over to my nursing agency and hopefully it's all they will need from me. Thanks alot!!!! Amy

Oh yeah...which one did you do? There's one that's a hands on one? Do I need that one or just the basic one? Thanks!!!

Anyone take an online CPR recertification course?
Thanks Richard! That's the one I was considering...so it all worked out? I'm assuming that it's legit and your card printed out for you? Thanks so much, I'll be doing mine in a bit. Amy

Job opportunites?
Hi, I'm currently going to be looking into getting SANE certified. I was wondering though, how good job opportunities are. I've heard from a friend that pretty soon all states/counties will require a SART team/SANE nurse. I know this is good news but where are SANE nurses employed besides ERs? Whenever I look in nursing ads or employment ads, I rarely see advertisements for "SANE" nurses. So, after you get certified, how do you go about looking for a job? And is this just something to do on the side, or can you do it full time? Also, do you have to be "on call"? I have young children and was just wondering about that aspect of it too!:D:nurse: Thanks, Amy :lol2:

Anyone take an online CPR recertification course?
Hi all, I just realized my CPR card is expired and was doing a search for CPR classes in my area and a bunch of online ones popped up. They say that they are legit and accredited but it makes me nervous. Anyone else take an online course to renew your CPR card with a company that was legitimate? Can anyone recommend a good website? Thanks!!! Amy:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:nurse:

"Omissions" in charting..should I be worried?
I just got a call from my nursing director at a hospital where I work, usually registry. She asked if I could come in on Thursday to speak with them because they were auditing charts and found some "ommissions" in mine. Should I be worried? Thanks!

Is it just me or are agency nurses not treated very nicely?
I just started working with an agency and I'd say more than half my experiences have not been very pleasant. It's hard enough trying to learn a new hospital, the way they chart, new IVs, equipment, etc. then you have nurses who are constantly trying to give you a hard time. Twice now, I've been brought to tears. I wouldn't say I'm an extremely oversensitive person but it just seems like at times, they go out of their way to give you a hard time. Is this pretty much the norm? I'm just wondering if I should give up now or stick to it and it will get better.... Thanks.
