I was interviewed last week for on call LVN position on Tuesday. On Friday, they called me to come to tour of a building. DON spent an hour with me showing rooms and talking about work environment. She said HR would call me for background check.

As of Wednesday evening, no one has called me. What should I do? Please advice.

Call HR & follow up? In most facilities the DoN cannot make a job offer only HR can...

Yep, call, call and call again. Show up if you have to. This happened to me once and it was 2 weeks of leaving messages before I showed up at the office and spoke with the DON and the HR person who said they were really busy and just didn't have time to return my calls, but since I showed up I started in the next few days. It turned out to be a bit of a flaky place to work... go figure. But I got the job.

I waited close to 2 weeks to hear anything more.3 days isn't that long.

I would call HR every day. They are overwhelmed with their work load. Need some gentle reminders.

Good luck.

Sorry, but I have to.

Advice is a noun. Advise is a verb.

Advice is what you give to someone when you are advising them.

With that being said, I would send an email to your recruiter or call HR and just ask for a status update. It took over two weeks for my background check to be done and a formal offer sent. If you irritate HR, it can be a bad thing.

and for anyone else reading this, when you go in for your interview and they say, "well, that's about it. any questions?" your response should include, "when should i expect to hear from you?"

that's when they tell you it takes two weeks for the background check, or they are interviewing all week and will have an answer thursday next, or whatever. then you say, "thank you very much, i enjoyed meeting you and seeing the facility. i'll give you a call on (specific date /two weeks,/thursday afternoon)." close the loop.

I second that, 2 weeks then call.

This person is soliciting advice. Please advice. May I please have advice? LOL No, really, must we critique grammatical errors? That is so, well just unpleasant.

Anyway, sometimes these things have to go through approvals and so forth so they take a few days or more internally. Breathe. I know you are anxious. A follow up phone call is certainly appropriate at this point, but I agree that irritating HR is a bad thing. I would call the interviewer and just say "I have not heard anything yet and was just wondering when I can expect to hear from Human Resources?". Maybe they are running some checks on you. It can take some time. Calling shows that you are excited about the job if nothing else. (Can't wait to start!!!:yeah:) Enthusiasm is good and so rarely seen these days.

It's a big trend these days to send a thank-you note to your interviewer for their time. It may be a little cheesy but if you have their email and can send one under the guise of "oh please exhalted ED Manager thank you for your precious time" you can slip in a little "can you please tell me something so I can stop biting my nails?" It sucks to wait and wonder.

I interviewed for a job I wasn't qualified for but I was referred for back in December. I emailed and waited a couple of weeks then saw two nurses I used to work with post on Facebook that they were the new nurses at BigBritches ED. That's how I found out I didn't get it! =) No worries, they had years of experience, I had six months. I love the job I got so no hard feelings.

Good luck to you!!!

OP: unless HR offers you a written or verbal job offer, you were NOT hired. Doesn't matter who said what or promised what or how many times your came to the building to tour. In almost all facilities, HR makes the official job offer.

I would contact HR to follow-up. Or contact the DON/interviewer and let her know that you haven't heard anything from HR yet.

Hi Meriwhen,

I have a question for you... I had an interview recently and I got a call the same day from HR who said they wanted to "go ahead with an offer". Then she said they were going to contact my references and should hear from them in about a week.

How long should I wait to contact them?

Do you think this is a "real" offer since it is from HR?

Thanks for your input. This is my first job out of school (I'm graduating in May) and I am so excited to start, I just want all the information now! :yeah:
