Getting paid for classes?

Just wondering what others are experiencing.. when you take classes that your managers want you to take ie. ACLS, NRP, etc. does you facility pay you for the hours you attend the class in addition absorbing the cost of the class itself, or do they only pay for the class? thanks!

We get paid for the time.

Those that have paid, have paid for the class only, but that is few and far between. Most of my employers think I should pay for everything out of pocket. One of them required a class that I had to pay for, then they did not hire me. Now that was a waste!

We always get paid.

At my facility if it is a mandatory class for your job and the class is offered by my facility (ex. BLS and inservices, ACLs for ICU nurses) then the facility pays for the class and my wage. If it is a class that is nursing related, but isn't mandatory, we don't get payed. We pay for them out of pocket and then the ladys auxillary reemburses us for the class.

It depends... Where I've worked they've paid for classes that are required and have paid for the time off, if the class occurred on a day I was usually working. Sometimes they paid for the class and the time off if I got it approved way in advance and there was budget for such things. One place I worked had an education fund we could use for such things. Each person could use so much of the money in the fund each year. You might ask if there is one where you work. They might not tell you about it if you don't ask. I found out it was there but almost never used, and hardly anyone knew about it!

My employers have always paid for the class and for my time to attend, if the employer requires (or encourages) the class.

My employers have always paid for classes that were required (e.g. BCLS) -- but not for classes that were not.

All paid for and provided by our hospital.

My hospital does not pay for anything. We are for-profit and they do not spend any money on anything.

My job pays for all mandatory classes, cost of class and time spent in class it is in the union contract.
