That really can be tough. It has happened to me beleive it or not. Is there a way you can do a repeat, just explain the situation to hr or the doc that did you preemployment exam. I always schedule it for the morning, drink lots of fluid I know goes through me such as diet coke. The job I'm at now I had to dring 6 glasses of water and they refuse to let me leave the testing area. I really hope you can get another test so good luck.

Well how much time did they give you? Couldn't you drink a coke and wait a few minutes?

I'd hope that they documented your request for a straight cath, but I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe you could offer to do a hair test, which goes back further than a spot urine test.

Oh no! I used to work in addiction nursing and we would randomly urine test clients 1x month. When they couldn't go we would just park them by the water cooler and have them drink H20 for an hour or so.

They wouldn't at least give you the chance to hang out, drink some fluids and see what developed? I would contact HR and push for a second chance. If they let you try again, keep hydrated, but don't over-hydrate as sometimes super dilute urine can be seen as trying to hide something.

Oh yes, I hung around. I waited until they made me leave... closing time. My bladder was full though, I just couldn't go in that circumstance. It was definitely mental because I went right after I left the office area.

It was a little bitty toilet, obviously no running water available to encourage the bladder. I could hear everyone talking outside the door perfectly, which hinders me in public restrooms also. I tried everything I could think of, including leaving the toilet to run hot water over my hands. I do appreciate comments from you all though, as I am just kind of in shock right now until I talk to HR tomorrow. We are talking my dream job here. Stooopid bladder/mind!!!

One time I drank too much water and my urine was so clear that they asked me not to drink anything for a few hours and retested me. I don't understand why they just didn't have you hang around for a bit and try again.

Any chance of using a different bathroom? The bathroom we had to use for our test had the ricketiest walls I've ever seen, and definitely much less than soundproof. My bladder isn't the least bit shy, but even I had to relax a couple of minutes before I could go.

Although, once at a urologist's office I had to give a sample in a room that had a window directly into the (very busy) lab--and it didn't look like it closed all the way. The receptionist rolled her eyes when I told her I needed to use a different bathroom, but handed me a sterile cup anyway.

I'm sorry about your day. If it's any comfort, my friend had the same experience. They let her come back the next morning, but they told her she had better be ready to produce. Lotsa coffee on the way in and she was begging them to let her pee.

I have had that problem once before. I drank 5 glasses of water and waited over an hour before I could "go." I was so relieved when I found out my newest employer's drug test consisted of putting a swab in your mouth until it was saturated. It was so much less stressful than trying to produce urine on cue.

I hope they give you another chance tomorrow. Surely you aren't the only one who has had a problem providing a sample.

The ironic part is, you would be perfect for the job, because you can never seem to actually get to the bathroom while you're working anyway.
