In our first semester we all had to watch this old black and white nursing movie called "Mrs. Reynolds". Mrs. Reynolds was an old grouchy lady who apparently had respiratory problems, as they were constantly doing respiratory treatments (i.e. bouncing her bed back and forth like a seesaw, I assume for postural drainage) and she ended up in an iron lung (and a portable iron lung in one scene).
The premise was that none of the nurses wanted to take care of her because she was so demanding and then this young fresh-faced nursing student came in and changed the way everyone thought of Mrs. Reynolds and nursing in general.
Sort of idealistic and naive, but nice.
I thought Whoopi was cool as a nurse in Girl, Interrupted.

"I saw and old black and white some years ago about two sisters in nursing school. They were caring for a little boy with a trach that needed suctioning (with their mouths!!)"
:uhoh21: We definitely need a vomiting "smiley" thing cause I almost lost my cookies all over the keyboard on that one! EWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
Huganurse, that IS a great movie idea! Hello? Hollywood?
Scarlette, I agree! We need a BARF emoticon!!:chuckle But that's how they did it back in the day!
This movie is realy driving me nuts! I saw it at like 2am on AMC. The good sister had a real ***** of a head nurse, but she saved her life after a bus crash and they became friends.
Did anyone ever see Patricia Neal in Operation Pacific with John Wayne? The movie is not really about nurses it is about being in the Navy in WWII. However, Patricia Neal's performance as a Navy nurse and John Wayne's ex wife is so powerful that as a child I thought it was a movie about nurses. The movie demonstrates the the respect our society had for nurses at the end of WWII very well. I still struggle to comprehend the sequence of events that led to the decline in status the nursing profession experienced during the last 20 years.

We just recently disscussed favorite nurse books and I was wondering if there were any favorite nurse movies out there?

) and the one sister left the boy alone to flirt with a doctor and the kid died, but the sister took the fall for it. Wish I could remember the name!
