Favorite nurse movie.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

We just recently disscussed favorite nurse books and I was wondering if there were any favorite nurse movies out there?

I saw and old black and white some years ago about two sisters in nursing school. They were caring for a little boy with a trach that needed suctioning (with their mouths!!) and the one sister left the boy alone to flirt with a doctor and the kid died, but the sister took the fall for it. Wish I could remember the name!:o

P.s. my favorite would have to be either the Triage nurse in Bringing out the dead or Greg Focher inMeet the parents

Oh, yeah! That triage nurse was great! Very realistic version of some of the ER nurses I've worked with.

Bring Out the Dead, that is the movie where Nicholas Cage plays a medic who is cracking up. If it is then there was some stuff that was so realistic. Like the part where the supervisor(desk jockey) calls Cage's character in rakes him over the coals in a most humiliating way. In the same breath he ask him to work a double. I fell out of my seat. I think someone was peeking in my old bosses window. There was no interest by managment in the mans dangerous deterorating mental health status, just cover that shift.

Hi Dave,

No problem, I'm sure that you'll catch me in a minor faux pas one of these days :-) Meeting The Parents was a really good show too, wasn't it?

"I'm just glad that my father-in-law never hooked me up to a lie detector," he said as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

Have a good one.

Chuck

i don't remember any nurse movies.

but i always liked the nurses on china beach.

all those things they would have to do during the war, then come home and couldn't even start an iv! slow appreciation for our skills :-(

OK,

I'm way way dating myself with this one:

Loretta Young in The Nun's Story...

she plays a nun-nurse in the Belgian Congo

Guess I gotta go with MASH and Hoolahan, but I also really liked One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and nurse Rachett.

I am glad I read this b/c I first read the thread title and thought, there really aren't very many movies with nurses in them, but I was very wrong I see.

I also really liked Whoppee in girl interrputed, but Whoopee is just great in whatever she does!!

Matt, I was thinking the movie you were referring to was The English Patient, but I guess it was one of the other movie's mentioned. ??

Not technically a nurse movie, but I loved Nurse Betty.

Bringing out the dead is a big favorite, and I definately enjoyed the nurse scenes in Pearl harbor.

In about 1960, I saw a movie (at a matinee with practically all the medical and nursing students in the city, I think) called "Carry on Nurse" which I thought was hysterical--it included the tale of the flower as a rectal thermometer, off camera, of course, and of a pugilist patient who didn't want to remove his trunks. The nurses ganged up on him (shown only above the waist--this WAS the '60s) with the remark "such a big fuss about such a little thing". It was, I believe, one of a group of British "Carry on" films.

Nope. The one I was thinking of was an old black and white movie -- very blatently anti-war. The patient can't communicate at all, so all of his dialogue is done in voice overs -- as "in his head". In the end he starts banging his head against the headboard and no one can figure out why. Then someone comes in and figures out that he's banging in morse code: "Kill Me."

Not what you'd call a date flick.

loretta young in the nun's story...

ooo, i got you sleepy!;) it was audry hepburn in "a nun's story"

excellent movie! shows an autonomous nurse who's as smart as the doctors. :D

i forgot about "the english patient" ugh i hate burns!!
