Hello,

I'm currently a nursing student and finals are coming up soon. A very close friend of mine died last Saturday. I have known him since the second grade and we even dated in high school. He was a happy-go-lucky guy who loved the outdoors. He died in his sleep for reasons that are unknown. He was 28 years old. I feel so crushed by this that I cannot focus on my classes. I have to ace these finals but cannot even organize my thoughts. How in the world can I do this? I begin crying at the time I wake up until the early hours of the next morning. This should not have happened to him. I still needed him here. Please help. Thanks.

Go to one of your instructers. Talk to her. Maybe they can postpone your exams for you.

Grieve takes a huge toll on your mind and your body. You need to take time to work thru your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with seeing if your professors can postpone your exams, it doesn't hurt to ask.

My dad died the week before finals. My instructors were very sympathetic and let me put the tests off a week. Do ask your instructors about it.

I went and took an exam following a tragic death of a child. I felt that I had to, because I was uninformed of my options. I failed because I was in no condition to think. I found out afterwards that they would have posponed my test if only I had asked, and told them my situation. ASK.

that is a horrible experience to have to endure. I think that speaking with one of your instructors is an option in addition to trying to find some kind of inner peace/strengh in knowing that your friend would support you in whatever you decide to do.

Your friend would want you to go on and succeed. As others have said, ask your instructors for extra time. I'm sure they will understand.

I'm so sorry about your friend... please talk to your instructors....

I didn't talk to mine, and tried to be Superwoman taking care of my Mother when she was diagnosed with cancer. I was going to class on Monday, clinicals on Tuesday, leaving Tuesday nights after clinicals and driving 3.5 hours to get to my Mom, staying with her till Friday or early Saturday mornings, driving back home 3.5 hours to work 12 hour shifts on Saturday and Sundays, only to turn around and do it all again.

I failed my BSN program by 2 points with ONE..... listen to me now.... ONE semester to go!

I am out of the program for 3 years. No amount of begging or pleading could get me in any sooner. (I am currently in an ASN program and will graduate in December.)

Talk to them, that's what they are there for... you need help right now... DON'T be afraid to ask, and DON'T try to be Superwoman. Very few women make it.

I am very sorry for your loss. My big brother died 4 days before midterms and I ending up failing one of my exams. I also was like you and could not focus and would start crying. You should definitely go talk to your instructors and postpone the exams!!
