Nurses General Nursing

Published

I haven't been around lately and would like to take the time to say "Happy New Year." While browsing the web I came across a website which encourages many in the public to get information on nurses. This is a nationwide database. I entered my name and "with a fee" I could view quite a bit of information on myself. I understand the BRN in many states has this available for many, however, it is limited in the amount of information it discloses. The website is: http://www.choicetrust.com/servlet/com.kx.cs.servlets.CsServlet?usertype=c

I wonder how many other services there are out there. :rotfl: :uhoh21:

Ohhh...that is creepy! I went to the site and saw some of my info. Did you purchase one of the 'reports' they offer, and if so, what kind of information does it tell about you? I am thinking they probably report where you went to school, where you work, maybe even your credit report.??? Our state board of nursing has a public, free license search available on their website. The thing I hate is, it not only lists my license info. but my home address as well. I don't like the thought that a disgruntled patient could show up at my door!

I totally agree. Some serious privacy issues involved here.

I would really like to know what information a person can obtain if they pay the fee.

I haven't paid for this report, yet. If anyone has done this please let us know what you have experienced. Do we have any rights or protections? Surely, if someone disgruntled showed up at my door there would be an attorney and litigation against these companies. Would you agree?

This is scary! Just another reason to get a P.O. Box..

my heart was pounding as i entered my name. to the far left you can click on a 'sample' report, but i couldn't make heads or tails of it. no way am i paying to see what's on there.

what i am concerned about (under my own name) was the 'update' dates. i need to writ them down, and see what they could possibly coincide with (hopefully either license renewals or job changes).

i periodically check my name on my states education dept. website. under online verififications, it says if anything is on your 'record'. my state gives the city in which you live, still easy enough to locate someone.

i'm not liking this :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

At first I thought this was a joke. Oh my god I put my name with all the other info being wrong and it still came up with me. The update date on mine was the date I got hired at my new job. Unfreakin believable. You become a nurse and you loose your privacy? I don't like this at all.

Disconcerting for sure.

This is concerning. I could not click on anything that would allow a free report? What did you others click on to see if your name is in the database?

Usually the way these services work is IF we are denied a job BECAUSE of something on these reports, then we get a free report. Otherwise if we want to see our file, we must pay.

My local nurse background/consumer credit service (Group One ...auxiliary of the local hospital association) operates the same way...facilities use this database in making hiring decisions and yes to blackball nurses. My local service includes employer comments which can be rebutted (if we know its there that is)

I've been concerned about these types of organizations for years so I'm glad to see other nurses are too. :)
