I haven't been around lately and would like to take the time to say "Happy New Year." While browsing the web I came across a website which encourages many in the public to get information on nurses. This is a nationwide database. I entered my name and "with a fee" I could view quite a bit of information on myself. I understand the BRN in many states has this available for many, however, it is limited in the amount of information it discloses. My name was in there also - I have a very unusual last name and my town where I live has only 2000 people - very disconcerting to say the least.

I guess I missed something important, because I couldn't find the place to get the free report either, although there was a little banner that said you could get one free report a year. Then all the stuff about the basic report was 12 something, the premium one was 25 something (quoting from memory and likely wrong about the amounts).....

and then there was the "build your own" for $9 and up.

Come on.

Seems like if you got blackballed, i.e., with the list they use here in Texas, you should be able to sue somebody.

I thought we had the court system and the BON/BRN's for keeping our ranks clean.

There needs to be a for profit collecting info it couldn't possibly also investigate?

If there is HIPPA for patients, there needs to be something similar for nurses (and other professionals). Too often I've seen some creep squeak through and continue to be licensed, and good people cross somebody (often unawares) and get jammed.

My name didn't come up on Nurse finder but when I went under disciplinary reports I found it. I also loked at the sample report which gives address, name type of license and any disciplinary actions, the sample shows a doctor John Smith

License related actions and items, including disciplinary actions, sanctions, consent orders, consent agreements, dismissals, non-disciplinary communications, advisory letters and other licensing information.

License Action # 1

Comments: BOARD FINDING: DISHONORABE, UNETHICAL OR UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT WHICH IS LIKELY TO DECEIVE, DEFRAUD OR HARM THE PUBLIC OR ANY MEMBER THEREOF. I paid the 9 bucks and got my report....It just shows where I have been licensed and when and past county of residence. It also has a section to show if you have had any action taken against you by any board. All this is public domain info that can be gotten for free from all state boards. It does not give your license number or current address. A compnay is just making money off of public domain info.

Thanks for paying the 9 bucks, so now we know what's on there. After I looked for myself, I checked a friend. First it said 'no matches' then I realized, the default profession is 'doctor', so make sure you have the right profession.

Did it list each job you held?

It does not list any jobs at all. It is all just public domain info that is gotten from each state board.

I just came across this thread forgive me for dredging it up. I entered 3 names, 1- an RN I know who has been disciplined for med error leading to patient death, 2-an LPN friend who died in 2003 and 3-me. It showed nothing on the first 2, in fact it had updated my friend 2 months after she died. On mine it gave where I live and that is scarey because the state board usually doesn't release any address.

Scarey world we live in.

Have you ever tried looking yourself up on the internet white pages? Not only can someone see your phone number and address, but they can get a map and directions to your house.

Those of you who said it didn't come up with any info on you.....

There's a button you click that says "more info".

I clicked on it, and it gave the city, county, I live in, and my nursing classification.

I put in my supervisor's name and it came up with her also.

To get more info after that, you have to make a purchase, so does that mean I could purchase info on my supervisor?

It says you can get credit histories, and on the sample copy there was a place for your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!!!

I try to be very protective of my social security number.....that's where someone can steal your identity and everything that belongs to you.

This is very scary indeed.

Also, there's a place where you can create a PROFILE...............???

I don't know that I would want to do that!

Wouldn't that be giving them more information about you into their database?

You have no idea what they do with the information you give them.

I wonder if the state you are licensed in has anything to do with it? I typed in several people, including myself, and came up with nothing.
