When I was a GN I started at $19.00 for day charge nurse at a SNF then got a raise to $21.00 upon request of passing the boards. I then transferred to another facility much closer to me & took a med nurse position at $19.50 plus $1 for evening, $1 if I did charge instead. I live in Massachusettes.
Due to your use of the title 'LVN' as opposed to 'LPN,' I can safely assume that you are either in California or Texas, since those are the only two states that use that title to refer to their basic nurses.so, i'm kind of calculating my coming expenses for school and the loans i'll be taking out. I want to have an idea of how much LVN's make 2010. i know there are other threads, but they are not current. I see that people for some reason hate posting how much they make, but honestly, it's not like i'm going to come to your state and location and steal your job. so, please, i just need to have an idea to see if i can pay back my loans and pay my bills once i have the job. Thank you very much.
If you are in CA, please be aware that the nursing job market is terrible in most parts of the state, and that many of the 2009 and 2010 graduates of LVN programs are still unemployed and looking for work. In fact, many of CA's 2009 and 2010 new RN grads are still looking for a place that will hire them. Many people would rather hear a joyful Pollyanna story where they'll get a job immediately after graduation and live happily ever after, but this has not been the reality for many people during the past couple of years. With that having been said, it would be unwise to take out $30,000 in student loans for a for-profit private LVN program that might not result in a job.
I earned my RN license three months ago. I left my last LVN job two months ago and was earning $27 hourly, but this was in Texas. I moved out of California five years ago when I figured out that the LVN pay rates did not keep up with the cost of living there.
