Just curious to know who has tattoos and piercings in places that are visible when at work...is it allowed? Or do you know/work with someone who does?

And by piercings I mean tongue studs, lip rings, nose rings, eyebrow rings etc....

I have no piercings myself but I have 3 tattoos which are easily hidden under clothes.

One fellow from my nursing class has his forearms tattooed and when he went to clinicals he had to wear a long sleeved shirt underneath his scrub top.

I'm curious all!

I have tattoos, none of which shows. But that does not mean that I won't get any in the future. I know quite a few nurses that have them that show, They've never said anything to me about it. I guess that it just depends on the facility.

I am too much a coward to have a tatoo but thinking of having a small one when my divorce comes through! rebellious here! as for piercings.............no way! but know some nurses who have pierced eyebrows and I am not sure it looks totally professional!

Karen

our facility prohibits piercings that show (except ears). Tattoos are not prohibited.

Karen, my divorce is a little over 2 now, and I too would like to get a small tatoo on my ankle. Yeah, must be the rebellion thing!

I have my tongue pierced. I normally wear it to work. technichly I'm not supposed to but no one say's anything. I will take it out for clinical though. I know people that had tattoo's that show before getting into nursing. Most of the time they are left alone.

Specializes in MS Home Health.

I have a tattoo that is on my deltoid. I always cover it at work.

renerian

i have a tattoo on my wrist. I don't make an effort to cover it and no one has ever said anything. I also have my nose pierced, since I wear a hoop, I take it out, don't need anyone grabbing that!

Not a nurse yet, but I have a couple of tatoos that are on my back.

iliel,

does the hole in your nose get irritated with you taking the ring out and putting it back in?

Mine did, but I think that may be because it wasn't completely healed. I gave up and just left it out..... :(

No, I've had my nose ring since I was 16. It goes in and out easily.

I have a medium sized tattoo on my left hip...easily concealed by clothing...as well as a navel piercing...again, easily concealed. I had a nose piercing when I was a teen, but took it out 10 years ago. I only like my rebellious side to show when I want it to. IMHO when you are at work you should be professional, that's your job. I don't think that there are any big stigmas anymore to piercings or tats, but I guess I just don't want to be judged on my appearance???

The nose ring i had gotten for one simple purpose: to drive my parents crazy, no other reason. I took it out when i was 18 for good, right after i'd moved out.

I'm getting a monarch butterfly tattoo on my right ankle when i complete my LPN program. It won't be visable.
