  1. At age 45 I think I have finally figured out what I want to do when I grow up. I think I would like to be in ostomy education for my patients. I am just an LPN now, do I have to have my BSN for this? I have always heard to be in any education field you must have your BSN, is this true?
  2. I have been a telem. nurse for over a year now.
  3. in arkansas i have a 3br, 2bath, 1703 sq. ft. home that was new when i moved in a little over 3 yrs. ago, and i had to pay $91,400. So when I see what the houses look like and their sq. footage researching on the computer, i will confess, i have to pick my mouth up off the floor a few times. but still, i am willing to take a smaller home and have to have a house payment to move!
  4. I am really wanting out of Arkansas as soon as my daughter graduates hs. I have been researching Colorado Springs. So far it appears to get a 3br,2bath home it is going to cost around $180-200,000. What about utilities and car & homeowners insurance? Are they sky high there too? What about taxes? I also noticed in my research there might be alot of mosquitos there(was hoping I could leave those pests in Ark.) Will have my RN ASN soon, hows the job situations? Thanks
  5. Thanks guys for all the info. I am going to do some more research! It's not going to be a easy decision, but I will keep you updated! Thanks again!
  6. To the poster who thinks all we "obese" people need to do is quit eating. Did I get overweight from eating, duh....! Now the real question YOU should be asking is WHY? I use food as a fix! I suffer from depression, and when my depression reared its ugly face for the first time...this is when I started gaining weight. But I wasn't aware I was depressed until years later. So just to enlighten you, it really has nothing to do with how much I eat, that is just the outcome. The real issue here, is WHY I overeat!!!! Now your educated!!!!
  7. Am I wanting to do this for cosmetic reasons? Sure! I mean, I am over 100 lbs overweight. I have high blood pressure; acid reflux, depression, and we all know this weight isn't good for my heart. I am newly divorced( a little over 2 yrs now), and lets be honest. My playing field is greatly limited looking like this. Plus there are several things I would like to do that I know my weight will keep me from it! Not only will it help me feel better about my self, I will hopefully be a little healthier too. I know there are risks, but do you think my weight is a risk too? And is my unhealthy lifestyle now a bigger risk than gastric bypass?
  8. Ok guys, I am really seriously thinking about having gastric bypass next summer! I need to have some of your advice on this! Should I? Or Shouldn't I?
  9. At the moment I am still a tech. I work the 11-7 shift. I find it totally unprofessional to sleep on the job. The only ones I have ever seen do this were other techs. But I blame the charge nurses for this. When my tech helper goes to nap, who do you think answers all her call lights, me! So I have decided, when I finally get my temp, and then my license, I will not quietly sit by, and let one tech have to do all the work, while her co worker naps. I agree with the other posters, if you know you work nights, sleep during the day, if you can't do that, maybe its time to get another job!
  10. :chuckle (funny, but lets be careful about those Arkansas jokes)
  11. I will have to say, I did not go to school to clean up after animals. If I am going to do that, I will get a house dog of my own. Also I am glad that I have never looked upon my patients as dumb or ignorant. I look upon them as someone who may not have had the same opportunities as me, or someone who is just different!
  12. I will be 44 in a few days, and starting this month to get my RN ASN. I believe our age is an advantage! Go for it. All those youngsters in your classes will only keep you young!!!!
  13. I will be 44 this August. I just graduated from LPN school, and going this fall for my RN ASN. Nope, I personally don't think it's too old!:)
  14. The Perfect Instructor! Don't treat us like children, my God, I was 44, and was not the oldest! Also when a student makes a med error(like I did), and is truthful about the error (to ensure the health of their patient), don't take all possible points away!!!! At least give the student .5 points for honesty! And I agree with alot of the other posts, dont show favorites; and especially dont expect us to be Professional at all times. We are still LEARNING! We are not professionals yet, remember we are STUDENTS!
  15. I just graduated from LPN school, and I find it amazing this person had any free time to even think of dating!!!! LPN school was the hardest thing I have ever done in my 44 years of life!!!! My only concern was, drug cards, test, being able to actually see the insulin syringe marks, and being the best nurse my patients have ever had!!!!:stone
