That would be funny (well maybe not) if you were someone who posted to the "things you'd like to say to a patient" thread.

There is one person who I think works in my dept on a different shift.

I think it is best for this to remain good and anonymous for soooooo many reasons. I always wonder why new students post the name of their school. Hopefully they don't come back later and post something less than loving about their instructor.

I treat this a bit like an AA meeting: "Who you see here, what you hear here, let it stay here."

Yes, someone figured out who I was in "real life" by reading my posts. This was a couple of years ago.

I used to frequently post about the dysfunction and underhanded tactics at my former place of employment. I received a private message from another member asking if I had ever worked for ___ ___ Center. I responded in the affirmative. She revealed her identity in the PM, and I subsequently revealed mine. It turns out that we were coworkers at this particular workplace back in 2006.

It's amazing how people can put two-and-two together to come up with you. I caution everyone to be careful if they wish to not be discovered.

I think when we work closely with others they could probably pick up on sayings that we use and such. Maybe we should have a don't ask -- don't tell.

No. I don't divulge that much information about myself on here...so recognizing me would be hard! Plus, I never told a buddy my SN on here...that's how I roll.

I found a tech I work with on here by her description and comments. I still haven't told her because it doesn't really matter to me, and I don't know her very well yet.

I would assume that anyone on my shift would be able to figure out who I am, and perhaps many people within the hospital itself.

It wouldn't be difficult to work out who I am for another AN member at my hospital, but nobody's said anything yet. I don't really post anything I woudn't say in RL, though.

I recognized a co-worker and mentioned it to him in real life. No harm...we actually chuckled about it.

I've been recognized by another (former/present?) co-worker. They went as far as to use my real name on the public board, yet refused to divulge their identity. Not cool, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, we have had people recognize posters - this is why we stress not using real names as your user name. The internet is NOT anonymous.

The other area where this comes into play is naming other people in your posts. If YOU want to remain anonymous, its important to be mindful of this for OTHER people too: that means no instructors names, no co-workers names, no employer's HR reps names, etc..

there is another poster on here who used to work with my boyfriend a few years ago, and we kind of figured it out after the fact... althought i've never actually met her in person.

there was also another student from my school posting here that i didn't know, just passed in the halls, and we are very good friends now in real life.

I've recognized classmates and even a nurse manager that I interviewed with. But, I never say anything here that I wouldn't feel comfortable saying in person.

I havent been recognized, but my name has been mentioned in Posts. I don't mind because I have nothing to hide. I am aware that things can come back to bite you as well...
But I dont say anything negative or bash people, students, Professors etc...
Everyone I think has a specific purpose for being on AN
I try to use the student resources
and Post information that I think could benefit my fellow AN from my state

I think you hit the nail on the head...
The other option is to not share any (or very much) personal information at all.

    (this is me in disguise!)
