When I was pregnant, dinner for the inpts one night was (I kid you not) a bowl of beans and a piece of cornbread. I told my hubs to call me before coming down, to make sure I didn't want him to bring me something when I had my baby!

When my best friend had her baby, the hospital gave her a pretty good meal the entire time she was there. She had fried catfish, grean beans, corn bread, and carrots. I tried it and was some of the best fish I have ever had. Another night, she had a hamburger with fries and a salad.

The last year our food has greatly improved and actually looks pretty decent. Staff sometimes eats the extra trays.

My mother got great food when she gave birth. I once shared her plate--steak, baked potato and spinach with mushrooms. Delicious! My mother looked forward to her vacation when she gave birth to my siblings. The best was with my youngest sister. She had jaundice and needed to stay in the hospital for 5 days. They let my mother stay in a private room, with no one bothering her, until my sister was ready to be discharged.

It all depends on if the people cooking for the patients actually knows how to fix food.

We have pretty good food, but we can definitely tell when the head cook is on vacation. The green beans taste just like the can they came out of.

We have freakin GREAT food at our hospital! We have a BBQ line (ribs, brisket, etc.), a salad bar, just anything you would want and it is really yummy. I eat down in the cafeteria (with the huge plasma flat screen to watch tv) every time I work.

I can't complain and the patients are always happy with their food.

We got great food at my hospital too :)

The hospital patients get better food than what is normally served in the cafeteria most days. At least they get three different meals- We get a breakfast of overcooked scrambled eggs, ninja pancakes, and suger-free syrup EVERY DAY, and then lunch and dinner are always the same things. Ewwwwww.....

Our patients, if they are coherant, call down and order their own food from menus that we give them. Spoiled brats, I say! ;)

My hospital has great food usually..... however, they occasionally slip back into the old "school lunchroom mode"; where everything is inedible and smells like canned spinach.:uhoh3:

Our food is pretty good too. It got even better recently. Until then they had this thing they called chicken alfrado casserole. It looked like it was predigested. That was the only thing that ever got complaints.

Eww! I remember once last fall I was feeding a pt who was on a pureed diet. I opened up the tray and there were three perfect rows of food. One neon green, one neon yellow, one gross brown. It looked exactly like they had been squeezed out of a tube, and all three maintained their rounded shape. GROSS! The long brown one looked like one long poop!

Green = Peas?, Yellow = Corn?, Brown = Meat?

The pt had previously been very unresponsive to much of anything. I hadn't seen him respond in any way to questions or move his arms/head when we talked to him. I saw his eyes take one look at the tray, and instantly they grew big as saucers and he suddenly sported this disgusted look. Needless to say, he refused to eat anything from the tray after that.
