Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
The Governor of Wyoming did -- when some sneaky people tried to slide in some legislation that would have made EC unacceptable in Wyoming. He said nope, nuh-uh! Good guy. :)Article is here: http://www.casperstartribune.net/articles/2008/06/14/news/wyoming/7dc8112318821c528725746700814b3e.txt
That's right. Now I remember that. I stand corrected!
i am with you oeue2007. i say we fight this to the end!!!! a class action lawsuit may be the best option. i am not giving up on this!!!! i am tired of being a rn who can't use the "title" in her own state bc someone is on a power trip and don't care who's lives they are affecting!!!! they will not get away with this. we have to all come together and fight for our rights. we all worked hard for this degree and should be able to use it!!!

demorhm, you have the governor of georgia behind you!!!! everything's gonna be alright. you will see.
Just curious, does anyone know if traditional nursing programs in GA are required to be NLAN accredited to operate by the BON? Also, do you think the GNA would be willing to adopt a resolution sanctioning the BON for actions that harm the profession of nursing, decrease patient access to affordable and quality care, while at the same time bolstering monopolies for schools within Ga in which the BON has a propietary interest?
It's really a sad day in the state of GA and in the nation when people know their actions are wrong (BON) yet continue to maintain their stance just because they think or "know" they can. I wonder why they thought we (EC students, Excelsior College, GNA) would just take what they dished out. Seems it would be apparent to them that we should have the opportunity just as they had to obtain nursing degrees. Everyone's life's circumstances and situations are different and we should all be allowed to realize our dreams in the best way that is feasible for us. In an "ideal world" all nurses would obtain BSNs or ADNs fresh out of high school at a brick and mortar university. Sadly I have to break it to the board that we don't live in an ideal world and they should not knock us or think that we are lesser nurses because we didn't follow their model.

Nursehopeful.
We live in the TWENTY FIRST CENTURY. THAT seems to ELUDE the GA BON. They need to get with it, because distance education is not going away; especially at AN NLN -ACCREDITTED AND CENTER OF NURSING EXCELLENCE SUCH AS EXCELSIOR.
Fortunately, Governor Perdue and his administration GET THIS.

I can tell you this. I went to a traditional college here in GA, and reps from the NLN visited and asked alot of questions of the students, etc,. in order to decide to continue to accredit the college. The professors, dean were all nervous, lol. I am not sure if it is required, but personally, I would'nt attend a college that was not NLN accredited. It makes it a Bonafide institution, so to speak.
I was glad to read the governor's statement. If he is behind us this is going to be fight to the end. He stated he looked forward to meeting w/the general assembly. I wonder when this meets?....He also said he hoped this wouldn't discourge us graduates and students to continue with this. I'm going to motivated and encourged. Concept tests...here I come! The Ga bon needs to be reappointed with all new board. Apparently they do not know how to do their job. Their should be at least one ec grad on their. Hey when we get done, we should try to be on the board. They need an EC nurse.
Excelsior suggests that we thank Gov. Perdue.

I just had to mention in mine that foreign nurses (who haven't been spending money and paying taxes in GA and the US all of their lives) now have a possibility of licensure in OUR state that is no longer open to us. (Just in case he's not aware of the weird world of BON rules).
