Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:

I am in the same boat although I only have been an LPN for two years. I also was excepted into a program but chose to go to excelsior because then I could work full time and still have time for my family. I am heartbroken because I have spent to much time and money not to mention the sacrifices me and my family have made. Like you I called the GA secretary of state before i started the program and was told that I could immediately transfer my license from another state. I wished I knew before I could have gone to the other program and almost have my license now. I researched Excelsior before applying and found no information about this 1041 bill that just passed in Georgia. All I can do to comfort myself now if hope that the program will be renistated in GA if some amendments are made.
I am floored again......a few days ago out of the blue I received an email from GBON to notify me that my RN license had been issue. I thought it was some sort of joke b/c it came from a yahoo email address; but when I checked the web site I did have an RN license. I couldn't believe it was true but yesterday I got a letter that stated the GBON had voted to rescind my original denial. I am sure that this will have no bearing on the Excelsior dilemma for other students. I hired my own lawyer but my case is different b/c I had applied before July 1, 2008.
It is ironic that I was the first nurse from Excelsior College denied licensure in GA: Now I may very well be the last nurse to get licensed from EC if things don't change. I am sorry that you all are still caught in this dilemma. But I am also glad to finally have my life back. And I am elated that I don't have to sale my house and uproot my family, but I was preparing too. I had already been offered a job in NY and was preparing to take it. My family and I were planning on how we would relocate in stages. I truly thank God; this is such a relief.
