Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
I Watched The News Tonight At Work With Other Staff. Can You Guys Believe The Rep. For The State Have Not A Clue About Excelsior, She Said That You Can Graduate From High School And Go Straight To Excelsior Rn Program And Get A Liscense. She Has No Clue, But I Was So Glad The Vice President For Excelsior Commented Right After Her And Explained Throughly To The Public You Must Be A Lpn,paramedic, Or Military Status Health. I Know She Feels Like A --- Since She Do Not Even Have Her Facts Straight And They Chose Her To Come On Tv To Alert The Public
"they also interviewed representative sharon cooper, the author of the house bill 1041. she seems to be under the impression that excelsior college accepts students directly from high school into their program with no healthcare experience."
please enlighten: representative sharon cooper

Let me repost the link to the broadcast ...
I can't watch it again, it makes me so darn mad. Redheaded temper, yo. If I can manage to be polite and professional today, I'll send an email. Not that I think she'll read it, or care. Thanks for the links, Karen!
Let me repost the link to the broadcast ...Thanks for posting the link, Lunah. Hmmmmmm seems like the Georgia BON and Ms Cooper, RN are not strangers to each other!
Letter sent to Rep. Cooper. I encourage all alumni to join the GA students in fighting this ruling, which appears to be more opinion-based than fact-based.
Cooper has seriously weakened her argument by showing her lack of understanding regarding EC. I did challenge her to produce some data to back up her claims that this is a matter of patient safety. Where are her records of EC grads' licenses being sanctioned? This should be fairly easy to produce. I also challenged her to take the CPNE off-the-record to see how rigorous it really is.
Of course, I did this in a courteous and professional manner.
LOL...I hear ya. I initially thought the GABON had something to back up their argument, but after seeing Cooper's interview, I see that this is not the case. She doesn't have to change her mind, though. She can continue to hold her stance, even if it is based on opinion. That's what is so frustrating.
I'm really glad Representative Cooper is in Marietta. The nurse managers at Kennestone Hospital are very upset about this new law. I know many that live in her district will be voting when she runs again.
I think what it boils down to is, Ms. Cooper is a angry person. She does not like the EC nurses and students because, "it ain't like I did it" type mentality.
It is strange she stated in the interview that any 18 year old out of high school could become a nurse through Excelsior. How misinformed can she be? Obviously she didn't do her home work, and is relying on someone else's guesses about EC.
And she also stated the law is about patient safety...not about how long the program has been in effect, or that peoples lives are disrupted. So, as I have stated before: " What about those nurses that are working in Georgia now, she should stop those ill prepared, under educated, and no-clinical nurses before someone is hurt."

You would think that these "traditionally educated" individuals would have done research about the topic of Excelsior College before false comments and accusations were made about this fine institution of higher learning. It's always good to be prepared and have the facts straight when being interviewed or else one will have to suffer much deserved embarrassment. The issue of EC seems to strike a nerve with her for some reason.

Georgia's representative Ms. Cooper comes out looking bad in this interview. She says she will not be swayed from her opinion. By all means, let's not let the facts get in the way of her ignorant opinion.
