Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
I totally agree at this point they have no evidence of "unsafe practice" by EC grads. They merged my post to this thread earlier regarding the letter I got from EC today....just curious what everyone's take on it is.
]I'm curious... was it time for you to renew your annual enrollment, or was this just out of the clear blue?
I haven't received a letter to that effect and my renewal fee is due next month. Some may think it foolish of me but I'll probably pay the fee and continue. We don't know what next month holds. Things may turn in our favor. I can only hope that all affected will continue to flood the email boxes of the legislators and governor and also continue to send snail mail.

I saw a copy of the letter. Does it mean they're accepting what's been handed to them by the GA BON, even though it's totally without scientific merit? From what I've been able to find, it's just their opinion and nothing else.
To say it's illegal to allow endorsement and that they are simply bound to uphold the law is insane. The law mentions that a program must be approved by the state BON to allow a graduate to take the boards or endorse. Why not say that in order to be approved in Georgia, a school of nursing must be regionally accredited and NLN accredited? That would keep any unaccredited, shady programs from seeking licensure for their graduates. Aside from the accreditation isssues, EC already has a higher pass rate than many others. What's wrong with this scenario?
By the way, have any Georgia RNs that are EC grads or supporters thought of serving on the BON? We must put a stop to the unjustified elitest nonsense! We need people who are open-minded on OUR board, not what we have now.
That was my feeling on it.....If they are that willing to just refund the enrollment fee do they not intend to give it a good fight? At this point needless to say I have not applied for my CPNE and will not until after the Sept BON meeting. My husband and I have considered moving but at this point what state is next? The fact that I could never move back to GA as an RN is a deterent considering most of my family is here.

The fact that EC has a higher pass rate may just be the problem; I hope it isn't because that would make the "driving force or forces" behind this bill, whomever they are, appear to be petty. Surely mature, educated adults don't behave as such.
On another note, I hope this doesn't signify EC as throwing in the towel. I expect them to go to bat for us and nothing less. I am desperately hoping for a turn around or some sort of amendment to this legislature. Rules are made to be changed--the BON proved that.
CA Board of Registered Nurses will not permit Excelsior College nrsg grads test for the RN boards.
http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/forms/excelsiornewsrelease.pdf (see below)
On Feb 3, 2006, The Ca State Appeals Court reaffirmed the CA State Board of RN's right to require 860 hours of supervised clinical practice for all RN grads applying to test for their boards. The court noted "Excelsior's CPNE consists of only a weekend course over the course of 2 1/2 days with a limited number of patients involving 2 areas of nursing.
VERY DISTURBING -
"The Court of Appeal acknowledges the numerous attempts by the Board to assist Excelsior for developing strategies for coming into compliance with California's requirements. Excelsior chose not to do so."
I think it is reasonable to say that we should not just point fingers at boards of nursing, but also at Excelsior. With all the changes to boards, Excelsior needs to make sure every applicant is aware that things can change at any time....at their risk do they do the program. This is a trend that isn't going away any time soon.
