Hey everyone,
I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!
A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.
Specific questions I have:
1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.
2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.
Thanks in advance!
Congrats to everyone who has started, still work on, and painfully completed their packet. I myself have finally finished everything. Currently waiting for the January boards for the Navy Reserves (ER nurse). Its been a fun process and I have enjoyed reading about everyone's experience so far.
Found out the other day my credentialing cleared. One more interview and the package should be done. Then we wait to see if and when new fnp billets drop. Meantime, I have contract discussions upcoming on my current job. Will probably renew for a year on the premise that fnp jobs truly are wiped out for fy19.
Hello,
Just stumbled upon this thread the other day at work so I ought to share what I have done so far and the info I have as well. I have a little over 2 years of RN experience as MedSurg. I started my packet for active duty credentialed in MedSurg around May 2017, did MEPS in June, interviewed in August, and then my recruiter told me that I have been board selected November 2018. As far as I know, the billets for this fiscal year has been filled quick. My recruiter also said that the board might meet again in May and will decide if there will be more billets to open. If not, the longest I have to wait is October of this year when the new fiscal year opens.
I wish the best of luck for those in the process of getting credentialed, MEPS, and interviewed. I hope you guys/ladies can all get in. Much regards.

In some cases, the billets were filled quickly. In others, they were simply zeroed out. My FNP package is almost complete (just waiting on the last interview). The big question is going to be how many they open presuming that FNP is a job they decide is needed going forward. Either way it's best to let the dust settle and get the best package you can to improve your competitiveness.

I am a critical care RN with 1 year of experience. I was told the board was meeting this month (Feb) and I am hoping to hear a decision on my package by mid-March. The whole process has taken me about 7 months thus far. Really starting to lose my patience lol.

ICU28 this is what I was told too. It actually looks like they are about to open up a lot of stuff but it will be in the next FY which is fine. It's all about timing and right now is bad time for APRNs
