FY 19 Navy Nursing

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!

A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.

Specific questions I have:

1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.

2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.

Thanks in advance!

Finally received word I have been professionally recommended by the board! Hopefully scroll/ods/orders won't take long!

I'm assuming your packet went for the February board? Is that correct? Mine did as well however I haven't heard from the OR if selected or not. Granted i'm applying for reserves and not AD.

Yup, I was feb. board for active duty critical care. Not sure how reserve selection works. Best of luck!

Found out the other day my credentialing cleared. One more interview and the package should be done. Then we wait to see if and when new fnp billets drop. Meantime, I have contract discussions upcoming on my current job. Will probably renew for a year on the premise that fnp jobs truly are wiped out for fy19.

Congrats!. Fingers crossed on FNP billets opening up.

Thank you and congrats to you as well. Since the Navy is eliminating DCOIC and moving everyone to ODS maybe I will get so see you there!

Just got the call a couple of hours ago that I too was selected!

Hellz yeah! Congrats. Any word on ODS date? My recruiter said we should know this week, but seems like it has taken others longer to get a date. I wonder if there are still spots in the June class.

My situation is a bit different in the reserves. I will have to schedule it myself after I go through indoc at the NOSC. After Sept this year DCOIC, the 2 week training is getting terminated and all DCOs will go to ODS. To many unanswered questions though on how is it going to look. Will it all be blended or continue to keep reserve and AD separate. I have 12 months from commissioning to complete the training. I honestly don't expect to go until after October and the new FY starts, but who knows. I'm just happy to get to go and be a part of it!

Congrats!

I am STILL trying to get credentialed! It's all good since I finally found the trick to this - be patient. Haha! I'm also trying for reserves. On Sunday I met up with my recruiter trying to tweak my package as I was missing info. He showed me the billets on an excel documents and not a lot of billets were filled so they ended up closing them. Anyway, yes, DCOIC is getting the chop soon. I hope this time I actually get credentialed to keep the ball moving. Best wishes to all!

I have not heard anything at all after I was notified by my recruiter that I was selected. He said the detailer would contact me to schedule ODS, but the timeline was a "black-hole". He said he has seen it take up to 6-months and wasn't sure why. I saw on one of the old threads that an individual recieved a scroll 3 months after selection notification.

At least the Navy knows they will be getting people who are very committed because this extensive waiting and lack of transparency is something else!

The hurry up and wait is totally real.... I'm finishing up my 13th month in this process. Granted I had to had a surgery and 6 months post op wait but still lol. Anyway, I was just seeing if you had heard of anything. I am looking forward to ODS though. As strange as it may sound but I dig all of this and can't wait.
