Hey everyone,
I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!
A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.
Specific questions I have:
1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.
2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.
Thanks in advance!
Gotcha. I know MEPS can be a hiccup for some but it isn't usually a big deal. Either way if he does make you wait, just know, CCPD will add some time to the process (it really is the biggest hurdle). I am prior service so things were a little different for me my MEPS, background check etc. was a repeat.
Hopefully the process goes smoother if they are truly just waiting for you to clear MEPS!

I really wanted to join Navy but from the way the recruiter pessimistically talks about my package, I have a feeling I won't get in.
Talk more in depth with him/her. I'm sure all of them will say "in one year you can fill up the FNP billet" but ehhhh I'm not too confident that will be a simple process.
I saw someone post that the Air Force needs 5 FNPs if that’s another route you want to try.

Thanks for that! In 2017 I tried but recruiter kept trying to push me for flight nursing which I ended up being disqualified for. He said that the only FNP slots were for active. I'm trying for Reserve.

That 6 year Ascension bonus is certainly interesting. Just need the to open the spots back up.

Oh I wasn't talking about the credentialing bit, recruiter was like yeeeeah that can't happen until after 90 days out of orientation which. Hey. I can work with that. I was referring to things I can do now. Like essays, background checks, interviews, etc
But I guess it's better to wait ?
