Hey everyone,
I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!
A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.
Specific questions I have:
1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.
2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.
Thanks in advance!
Hello guys, congrats to all who were selected to the Navy Nurse Corps. To the nurses who are waiting patiently, stay positive! I'm a CVICU RN with only 8 months of experience. I'm also a fulltime online student for my RN-BSN degree, I'll graduate in December 2019. I have been in touch with a recruiter(she's very nice) since February about the process to get in as an ICU Nurse. I'm not a prior service member but I would love to serve as a RN . I was told that I can get started with my medical screening and get through MEPS while I'm waiting for the FY2020 to come out in October 2019 and graduation. My recruiter won't be able to submit my package until I graduated in December. I'm currently doing my pre-medical screening and working on my credentials and background packages. The recruiter told me that the Navy always has ICU billets but I don't know if that will change because of the healthcare transition. I'll keep you guys updated

Welcome to the fun game of hurry up and wait. I'm only a few steps ahead of you though (swore in in April). Good luck to you!

Mcaselogic, I am also an FNP but I'm chosing to take the MedSurg route to get my foot in, I'm currently applying to Medical school and I want to improve my chances of getting into the military medical school. I am currently applying to the MedSurg billet as a reservist. I hope the FNP slots open up soon. Goodluck

Good to hear! I would accept that slot but my recruiter is very unorganized. He said he would call me with more details. I wouldn’t mind going in as Med Surg but don’t want false promises later on if I want to transfer as an FNP. I’m also doing the reserve package. Good luck in MEPS.
Hey guys quick question. What does the application packet (or kit) that gets submitted to the board include? I already sent copies of birth certificate, SS, etc along with that meps paperwork forevers ago but there isn't much of an urgency with my recruiter since I'm still on orientation in my new unit (switched specialty, welp). I went ahead and had LORs sent to him along with my college transcripts. Is there anything else?
HI all, I was anticipating my packet to go before the board July 1 as CCPD was late on my credentials but my recruiter called to say it was going before the June board. How long did it take those who were recommended to hear back from the board? I am applying for a critical care RN spot.
Thanks in advance!
