FY 19 Navy Nursing

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!

A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.

Specific questions I have:

1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.

2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.

Thanks in advance!

No idea. Just wait and see what else they find out. This just went out today.

Per my recruiter they are not recruiting any more direct accession NP and ER nurses for now. Ugh I'm heartbroken. Hope they can do something.

direct accession means right after graduation?

It means after graduation or already a professional

So they have hit their limit for all nurse practitioner recruiting? Or are we talking about specific specialties?

Not 100% sure but it seems like they decreased their numbers and the quota was met.

My sister is in the navy and spoke with the medical officer recruiter for me at Balboa and they said as of now the quota looks to be full. A LCDR said they are having a lot of transition in the medical facilities with a different branch? Running it. Also with all this talk about a government shutdown í ½í¹„ who really knows. I just know they aren't taking applications at the board now.

Verified by my recruiter. Force reduction Closed several communities without any warning, to include L&D, MSW, ER, and FNP with the adjustments. went from 8 spots to none without warning. Still finishing my package though because the odds are it won't be forever.

My recruiter said he's working with the PM. (I don't know what the PM is) to put mine on hold. Mine is ready to go. Ugh so close to have this happen.

Spoke to my recruiter today. I'm still up in the air as he doesn't know if they chose me or not. However he did confirm that this fiscal year is done. I know this doesn't sound too exciting but we can always wait for next year. They will still have our packages.

Also, not Navy, but both AF and Army have already filled out their FNP slots, in case anyone is interested.

Did your stuff make it to the October or November board? I'm not sure what we will have to renew for next year. Just kind of stinks because my recruiter took his time and said we won't have a problem. I was told they get most of their NP from their nurses internally who go to school. Hopefully they will increase the quota next year.

I find it hard to believe they have loaded up all of their billets for the entire fiscal year one month deep. Regardless, packages are good for two years. So I'll keep my recruiter on the ready to get the package out as soon as the dust settles. Just means more experience and higher rank once it clears. :)

Yes! That's how I'm looking at it!
