FY 19 Navy Nursing

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!

A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.

Specific questions I have:

1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.

2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.

Thanks in advance!

Does the board still meet every month on the 15?

Hi everyone, I have also started my process for USN but Reserves. I'm an FNP with about 3 years experience in ID and 5 years of ER experience as an RN. I was told there were no billets for FNP in Reserve; only AD. My recruiter tried to make my package for FNP but the credentialing board stated I needed experience with children, which I don't have. So we made a package for public health nurse since I do work with the underserved population - was just told that I needed a nursing degree in community health (?!?). Anyway, I've completed MEPS and I'm cleared but now I'm just waiting to see what I can possibly be commissioned as.

My recruiter is very informative plus he has A LOT of enthusiasm as it seems he recently finished recruiter school. If you're in the central/south Florida area and interested, don't hesitate asking for his info!

Best of luck to everyone. I'm so grateful for this thread!

I was an ER RN for about 4 years have been FNP FOR 1.5 I've worked with urgent care, primary care, and SNF. I have my DNP which I heard helps. I've done MEPS and everything is done except credentialing which is in process. I'm so nervous about credentialing because one of my jobs I do my own billing (rounding at SNF) so technically I work for myself on that one part. I do have contacts to verify it but it looks like I have a crazy job history the way it's listed on all my stuff. I hope that doesn't detract from my packet. The credentialing office said it should be fine but you never know. I'm applying for active duty. I've been thinking about doing this since 2011 and the time is finally right. Good luck to everyone and I hope we all get to serve together someday!

Official medically cleared. Woohoo! Now comes credentialing. I believe all of my information had been turned in. I remember my recruiter talking about some form of interview process. Anyone hear of this and or know when it happens once credentialing is started?

I can tell you how the interview process worked for me:

My recruiter put me in touch with 2 navy nurse corps members, 1 was an active duty O-4, the other was a retired O-6. One of the interviews needed to be face-to-face (FaceTime, Skype, or in person), the other could be a simple telephone interview.

The interviews were pretty laid back, questions like why the military, why Navy, etc.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Wanted to let others know that I passed the N3M and CCPD portion! Recruiter called me today that the next step is an interview. He only mentioned one but let's see. He's aiming to schedule it early December when it's drill weekend. I'll try to post as many updates as I can on my process and shed some light.

Good luck to everyone!

Awesome! So are you doing the public health nurse route? My CCPD is waiting to be signed off by the supervisor? What is N3M?

I submitted a package for public health but apparently I had to have my MPH, so that was a no go. My recruiter told me he'd give me more info today since he isn't fully aware of what type of NP I got credentialed as (FNP vs PNP). I'm assuming it's Family. I don't think they would approve me for pediatrics.

N3M is a "special" medical waiver for all officers, as I'm told. I think the enlisted have it as well but it depends on the individual. I was told all those applying for officers need that waiver approve.

Your CCPD seems to be taking long? I'd follow up on that. They should give you an answer within 2 weeks.

Yes it's taking long. They are staying in contact with me but she was out sick for a week.

My credentialing is at QA for signature? Is that when I find out if it was approved? Getting information is sometimes like pulling teeth.

Everything is done! Finally! CCPD said "I was found favorable with their office" and The next step is the boards. Mcaselogic are you still doing reserves?
