FY 19 Navy Nursing

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of working with a recruiter and getting a package together in hopes of commissioning as a critical care nurse in the USN. I just wanted to see if any other applicants are out there!

A little about me-I only have about 7 months of RN experience in a level I ICU and my TNCC certification. Prior to getting my BSN, I served in the Air National Guard for 6 years as a 4N0 and a 4N1.

Specific questions I have:

1. Does anyone have specifics on the credentialing process? I've seen elsewhere on this forum that to become credentialed in a specialty, you only need 90 days of experience off orientation...Can anyone verify? I think the only weakness in my application would be my limited experience. I can't obtain the coveted CCRN certification until around the one year mark per the AACN's requirements.

2. My recruiter says med-surg/critical care are in high demand. Anyone out there know how many billets are available for direct accessions? My recruiter is on leave, else I'd ask him.

Thanks in advance!

Interviews aren't bad at all, they basically just want to get to know you, why you want to join the navy etc..mine was more of just a friendly conversation then an interview

I am waiting on credentialing to finish reviewing my stuff before it's sent to the board. Has anyone heard quotas for FY 19?

For active duty direct accession FY 19 this is what I was told:

12 Med Surg

3 L&D

20 ER Trauma

18 Periop

37 Critical Care

1 NICU

Great thanks! I'm actually applying FNP. My recruiter said it shouldn't be a problem but I just wanted to see a quota last year it was 8 and they had 0 applicants.

I believe this year there are 8 FNP positions open per my recruiter. I know at the end of last FY, there were two remaining and it sounds like they gained 6.

Anyone know how long it takes to get your ODS and Duty Station orders, I got my final acceptance letter last week so just waiting again patiently for orders

Yes they told me they get most of their NPs internally but are looking to get more direct accessions. I'm in the credentialing process. This certainly has been a long process. I started in July.

Yep, 8 FNP is what I was told as well.

I'm at meps tomorrow to get my knee checked out. had acl reconstruction in 07 and the air force lost my records. So hoping that and two other consults get cleared next week and I'll be onto the interview phase.

Sweet, good luck. MEPS is much better the second time around.
