Recently a middle aged pt of mine came back from surgery w/ concious sedation. Now usually my pts are groggy, in pain, confused etc. Typical.
This is the first time I had someone come up from the PACU laughing and cracking jokes. She was soooo funny. Talking about how the doctors were so cute and she wanted to get on with the surgeon. At one point she grabbed my hand said that she loved us nurses and we were all angels and she had the best time ever.
Everytime I came in the room she would wink and ask if that hunky doctor was going to come up and see her. I only wish I stayed when he came up just to see the look on his face.
She made my night. I wonder what med they gave her down in OR because I need some of that for the rest of my pts - I would actually look forward to work! :redpinkhe
Have you had pts like this?

Yes, I had one in school. A teen had her adenoids removed, and during recovery--still "drunk" off the anesthesia--she was high-fiving everyone and saying, "I can breathe now! I can breathe now!" Her parents were nervous wrecks over the surgery, but she was so darn happy to have it done. Loved the experience with her.

I don't remember any of it, but when I had surgery back in the spring, (and well oiled on some preop meds), I apparently told my surgeon that he had a cute backside, and went on about it's perfections. The gig was up when I called him "McDreamy...."
BTW, my surgeon was almost 70. He got a real kick out of it.

Sounds EXACTLY like me when I got mine out! Although I'm probably too old to be a teen when you were in school!

Mine wasn't surgery.....
But, I was in labor and given my epidural. Pain free at that point, I cracked jokes on my way to the delivery room and while there. Prior to my 10 cm point, the doc asked, "Since this is a nurse training hospital, would you mind if some nursing students observed the delivery?" I said, "Nope...don't care, bring them all in!"
After my son was born and they were getting ready to wheel me back into my room, the doc said,"You know you spoiled those students. They are going to think that they (deliveries) are all that easy!"

Had acute pancreatitis when a gallstone blocked my common bile duct. Spent 5 days in the hospital waiting for labs to normalize so I could get my lap chole.
When the gurney came, I came barrelling out of the room with my IV pole and jumped on it!! Nurse was slightly taken aback, but I said "I've been here FIVE DAYS! Take me to the OR!" Cracked up the OR nurses too--I was so ready to have surgery and go home.
Didn't feel so good after surgery, had to stay one more night, but I sure made their days right before it!!

A few years back I had a lower GI and woke up during the middle of it! Not awake to where I could talk but to where I knew I was in pain and I knew what the doctors where saying. In the recovery room when I was fully awake I told my nurse my experience and she said that there is no way that it happend. So the doctor came in and I told him exactly what he was saying about how big his daughter looked in her swimsuit and how his wife would be ****** if she ever found out what he was doing behind her back. You should of seen the look on his face and the nurse (I am assuming she is the other person! By the look on her face!)
The following year I had to have another one done and this time the same doctor came in and said we will for sure make sure you stay asleep the entire time....and they did!!!

When I got my wisdom teeth out, they started administering the anesthesia and the surgeon had left the room briefly... he came back in and asked me a question and I answered it in a way that I thought was completely normal. Everyone in the room laughed and the surgeon said, "Oh yeah, I think that anesthesia's working." To this day, I have no idea what he asked me or what I said to make everyone laugh!
