FUN thread! how many months are you into your first year?

Published

just thought we needed a new thread that is a lot of fun!

how many months are you into your first year as a new RN?

(the date you passed boards, and the months you are working at your brand new first RN job)

11/19/07 - 4 months- pediatrics :yeah:

:nurse:

Specializes in NICU/L&D, Hospice.

Graduated Dec 07, started orienting to NICU on Jan 14th, passed boards on Jan 31st!

Wow! I didn't realize I was 4 months into working!

Specializes in Telemetry.

Graduated May 12, 2007.

Began working May 17, 2007. I was lucky enough to work licensed pending.

Passed boards July 3, 2007!!!

So it will be 11 months for me on April 17, 2008.

Specializes in OBGYN, Neonatal.

I passed the boards on 8/22/07, started working as an RN on 9/10/07 and am working in Postpartum/mother/baby.

Wow, I have to remember.

I passed the boards around Oct 25 I think. That was about 3 weeks into my job on orientation in an ICU.

I left that job (Ha ha -- no starting in the ICU for me as a new grad -- sorry, no way) at the beginning of the year.

And now I'm on a more med/surg type unit.

So, I've been graduated for about 8 months, and an RN officially for almost 6 months now!

It's hard to believe. I have one more month on orientation in my new unit. They gave me a very liberal orientation time. As long as I can make it through, I might cut back to part-time -- we'll see.

Just trying to get through it one day at a time to that year mark, and then to the point where I can made my obligation to my contract which is about 18 months on my unit. Seems like it will be an eternity, but maybe not.

After that, we'll see how I feel. May leave bedside, but maybe by that time I'll have caught on enough and will switch floors to cardiac or something, L&D, something different. I'm sure I'll like it more as I become more proficient and less clueless.

I have a prior degree also, so I'd like to combine my nursing with that and go back to a 9-5 job -- we'll see.

Great to have options!

I think anyone who can survive the first year is one tough cookie! :D
