FSU Accelerated BSN Spring 2010

Anyone else applying for FSU's Accelerated BSN program starting Spring 2010?

are ya'll buying the 'spring box' of books for the program? or are ya'll ordering your books from somewhere else? just curious... i was going to wait for the box, but it won't be available until start of school...

Hi! Sorry I forgot to respond to your last post. I appreciated the textbook info update! :) A friend who is in the 2-yr. program told me that buying the nursing box was actually cheaper than when he priced them individually, so that is what I plan to do. I had planned to call Bill's this week to see if the box was in, but from what you said, sounds like it will be a while. Guess we won't be able to read ahead - oh darn . . . was so looking forward to doing that over the holidays! :*$ Let me know if you hear about books being in! Have a wonderful Christmas and rest up! We're gonna need it!

Hope ya'll had a great Christmas! I've been crazy busy until now but now I will finally have a week to relax before we start. I'm kinda nervous LOL.

Our books are finally in I hear; I'm going to get them from Bills b/c my office gave me a nice gift certificate there as a going away present! I don't know if I'll have time to open any books, but I'll get my boyfriend to download all the stuff onto my itouch at some point atleast.

See ya'll soon!!

Hi Ceekitty!

Happy New Year! Can't believe we will be in classes in less than a week! I called Bill's yesterday, and they told me that the books are in, but they can't sell them quite yet . . . checking on prices? or something. I'm getting my itouch ready too. And also feeling a little nervous. Not having classes this past semester, I've gotten away from studying 24/7. But, at least we won't have to worry about our jobs and studying. Leaving my school was even harder than I'd imagined. I'll really miss the kids. They want me to come back to be the school nurse. (They don't realize that she is not even a CNA!) Well, rest up and enjoy your last days! I'll see you at orientation on Tuesday!

Congrats to you all!!! I am interested in FSU's ABSN program and I read there were 42 applicants!!!!! Is that an average number for their program??? It seems like such a small number....but less competition :)

Hi Jazziphat,!

I think there were relatively few applicants because the program was not heavily publicized. There will probably be more next year, I would think! It was originally planned to start Fall '09, but was postponed to Spring. If I can answer any more questions, please don't hesitate! We start Wed. - wish me luck! Happy New Year to you!

All the best to you pbteach and everyone else starting!!!

Hey all! Thinking about applying for the spring 2011 program. Can you tell me how things are going? I am interested in finding out what time requirements they are projecting? Ie: Mon-Fri 7am to 7pm for 12 months? I have children and want to make sure I have them covered while in the program. Also, I need to take the pathophysiology course. Did you need to complete it before the application deadline or just be enrolled in it? Did you have to take it at FSU or were you able to pick it up online somewhere? Thanks! Lots of luck to everyone!

Hi!

Patho must be completed before the program starts. Some of us took it at FSU, and some other places, some took it online. Also the HESI exam needs to be taken before the application deadline. Our classes begin @ 9 am and end at 2:30 or 4:30, depending on whether we go to the skills lab. During the second part of this semester, we will have 2 full days of clinicals off site, from 8 to 5. We are REALLY busy, but we all love it so far. There are several people with young children (2 mos - 2 yrs old) in our group, and they seem to be managing. You definitely need good time management skills to survive! Let me know if I can help in any way!

thank you for responding to me! getting good advice makes all the difference! i hope you all do great! i also did not realize that you needed part i of the hesi and part ii, the science portion! seeing everyone's posts was educational. if you don't mind... could you ask people where they were able to take it online? i am striking out finding it offerred online unless you are enrolled in that schools rn program. i would prefer this so i don't have to drive to tally twice a week to take the class. we haven't moved back yet so i am just trying to get all my ducks in a row! best wishes!

People in my class who took Patho online either took it from FSU or Kenyon College (Ohio). They said that they just found Kenyon by googling online patho classes. Hope this helps! Where ever you decide to take it, I would just check with FSU CON before enrolling to be sure it will transfer. Hope this helps!

Hey everyone,

Congratulations in starting and enduring your first semester of nursing school!!!

I'm new to this thread and am contemplating applying to FSU's ABSN program even though it (seems) relatively new. Please inform us, newbies, about the reality of the program -- administration's leadership and organization, professors, and any other striking things that stick out to you. As well, could please let us know what your gpas were OR the average gpa of your entering class? I have previous BA from UF and my gpa is classicaly uncompetitive; yet my science prerek gpa is high.

Your feedback is already appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
