Anyone else applying for FSU's Accelerated BSN program starting Spring 2010?
I registered several weeks ago, and went back to the site you sent. It wouldn't let me register for an orientation - said I had already attended one. I think I may not need to go to one because I graduated from FSU, but I'll call the nursing school tomorrow, just to be sure. I'll ask them if the CON is having their own orientation for us as well. Will let you know if I find out anything. Are you taking the BLS class on 11/19 by any chance? If so, I'll see you there!
Ceekitty, I got the email and I filled out my FAFSA. I was told by a friend in anothe ABSN program that because we are getting a second b.s. we will not be eligible for anything but loans. I confirmed it with CON and it's sad but true. I haven't even looked at the background check stuff. What all is required in it? Do we have to upload a lot of paperwork? I was waiting to upload it until I was sure that I would be able to come. I applied to other schools and I wanted to make sure all the decisions were in before I made a choice. I guess I should do that ASAP since orientation is next week! Between the insurance, scrubs, and background check how much did you pay? Yes, i too hope that all the expenses resume to normal after this. Do you already live in Tallahassee?
To PBteach and Ceekitty, I have a blackberry. Do you guys recommend the touch instead? Are we going to be using our pda's for class work? I also wonder if we are going to have A CON orientation too. Do you guys know how many people were accepted? I am beyond excited!!!
It is $57 here. I called the CON today and found out I don't have to go to the FSU orientation because I am a graduate and already attended one. A woman said that the CON will have their own orientation, and she will send out information in the next week or two about that one. Let me know if you need help uploading your documents. As ceekitty said, you need to get going on that stuff asap. Looking foward to meeting you! I'm very excited and anxious to get started too! Have a safe trip back.
Sorry - forgot to respond about the PDA. I would wait if I were you - your Blackberry may be fine. There are several programs that we will need to download/subscribe to for clinicals. The itouch is great, but you may not need to spend more money for it. 24 students are in our class, and about 42 applied as I recall. Yes, I live in Tallahassee - moved here from Naples in 1994. If I can help you get settled in any way, let me know!
pbteach, thanks for all your help. Yes, I just started getting ready for the background check today. I went to get my physical, three shots, and the tither. ugh! I don't know why i assumed it wouldn't take that long, but I'm going to listen to you and begin now. What do you have to upload?
I'll hold off on the Ipod. I just want to be prepared. This program is too fast paced to begin the year off wrong! I am really excited. A little less excited about moving back to Tallahassee, but excited about our new opportunity. Your lucky you don't have to go to the FSU orientation. What all takes place at it? Do you remember how long it took?
Our class isn't big at all. I really hope they can find some scholarship opportunities for us. I remember reading that your ordered some things from allheart. Di you find the prices better than Helen's?
Thanks again for all your help!
Wishingonastar85 - like pbteach said, I think you are probably good with your blackberry... The things you have to upload are for the background check. You can either fax your documents in (mostly attachments in one of our CON emails) or scan and upload them. Is that what you were asking about?
Hopefully orientation on Friday will fly; I'm not really sure what we are doing there. Someone said something about advisement for classes, but we dont need that b/c we already know what we are taking... It's supposed to last from 8am-4pm.
CON told me that our group of 20-24 (not everyone accepted the offer to attend) are the only ones in all our classes (for the first semester atleast - yay!).
I think I finally have all my stuff in line for next semester. I'm definitely ready to get started and see what the load will be like.
Anyway I'm goin to bed now - I'm sooooo tired - I hope this post made sense LOL (:
Maybe we'll meet up at orientation

orientation wasn't bad... actually pretty informative & they stuck to the schedule. CON said our orientation will probably be Tues, Jan 5th (the day before classes start) from 1-5pm. we should be getting more info on it soon. They also said that our booklist will go online (CON website, left side of page) on Dec 1, so you may want to start getting books then. have a good weekend (:
ceekitty,
Thanks for the updates! Glad orientation wasn't too bad. Did you meet anyone from our program? I'm really looking forward to meeting you, as well as the others. I have to return to the doctor on Monday to have them read the TB test, then I can upload all the vaccination stuff and be finished with the uploads! I also need to get shoes. Did you buy them at Helen's? I'm anticipating sticker shock with the books! I'll check it out after Dec. 1 Have a good weekend yourself! I'm sure that you, like myself, are treasuring these last free weeks! :)
just fyi: the con told me that there were some minor changes to the textbook list, so hold off on purchasing books for a couple more days. they will send us an email with the course syllabi and textbook information...
i looked at all the books we have to buy, and it's pretty expensive. i kindof freaked out at first, because it was a lot of books, but they listed all the books we'll need for the whole year (not just the semester); so it's about what i thought per cost (roughly $500/semester)...
hope ya'll are doing well - happy holidays!

yeah we have to go to an all day orientation next friday (8-5 i think)... unless you attended one already a previous semester? i can't remember if i'd gotten an email about it or what, but go to: http://nsfp.fsu.edu/register.html and you can register and find any info on it there!
