Recently I heard our hospital will be forcing everyone to get a flu shot or they will have to wear a mask for their entire shift. I have had a reaction to it and usually just boost my immune system during flu season and this works well. I was told that even if we have had a reaction in the past and still don't get it, we wear a mask. This does not sit well with many of us at the hospital. Was wondering if others have experienced this and what they did.
This is the specific story I've been following since last year and have also been following this family on their FB page "Light for Riley".It is a heartbreaking story but also a heartwarming one that this family chose to stand up and tell their story and vaccination laws are now changing in Australia.
this family got ripped to shreds by the more aggressive outspoken antivaxxers. They said some horrifying things and aggressively bullied the family. The story is heartbreaking. I do believe the mom just recently gave birth to a new baby (hope I don't have my stories mixed up).

Nope - you got it right! All that was covered in the video - the parents read some of the comments directed at the mother on social media. And they showed the new baby with her older sister.
It isn't a long video - I was in tears by the end though.
1. I have never seen anyone with a severe allergic response to the flu shot. I would like to hear details from someone who had this experience.
I got flu shot in 2006 on my other "medical field" job. In an hour or so, the place of shot developed grapefruit-size edema which was itching like ****. Since I have h/o severe allergic reactions and knew what to do, I just self-administered IM dose of benadryl and upped my (that time) oral prednisone dose. The edema and itch promptly disappeared, and I forgot about it. Next year, 2007, I got urticaria, itch and minimal peeling of skin on face and hands in a few hours with documented IgG/IgA "surge", WBC shift, minimal renal impairment, all the trimmings of type III/SJS. "Cured" with high dose steroids. The causative was probably immune complexes with octylphenol or polymixin B (respectively, a preservative and antibiotic, the latter one since removed from vaccine and former one in the process). Docs' verdict: either premedication with steroids 72 h before and after + antihistamines, or "clean vaccine" or live vaccine (since available in ID form). No shot is not an option due to asthma and questionable immune status overall due to mentioned steroids. Had either live or ID vaccine ever since, no problems and no flu.

Disgusting. IMHO it makes them no better than Westboro.
Actually, depends on how much you want to pay him. Gossip in the antivax crowd when California vaccine mandates went in to effect was he would write you a medical exemption if you paid out of pocket for a visit. And he's being investigated for negligence not necessarily related to to vaccines. I read the charges. He failed to perform a neuro exam on a 2 year old hit in the head with a hammer by dad. Failed to follow up on other unexplained physical injuries. Prescribed garlic for a severe ear infection in the same kid, and wrote a medical exemption for the same 2 year old based only on moms claims that the kid was lethargic and fussy for days after his first set of vaccines. Never reviewed previous pediatrician records. I have a sneaky suspicion this is how he operates. Looney antivax parents claims kid reacted badly, dr bob writes a medical exemption without needing any proof. I found it interesting that dr. Bob also treated the kid in question with tamiflu when he came down with confirmed influenza, but doesn't reccomend a flu vaccine. Tamiflu, from my understanding, is proven to be pretty ineffective for children with a host of seriously risky side effects (and a hefty price tag). He's an idiot. And that's being kind.
Just came across this article a few minutes ago.
...Known as a vociferous, and vitriolic, critic of both California's mandatory vaccination law SB 277 – promoting vaccine choice†– and the CDC's recommended immunization schedule, Sears has made a name for himself by fear-mongering about vaccines while creating and promoting an alternative vaccination schedule†that skips and/or delays vaccines that are crucial to protecting children from vaccine-preventable illnesses. The very low immunization rates in Southern California, where Sears practices, has been noted as a contributor to the Disneyland measles outbreak in 2015...
Get a flu shot folks. It is worth it.
My daughter had a hive-form reaction. She is not allergic to eggs, and oddly enough, she tolerates the LAIV, or flumist. I'm not sure what we'll do this year.
Go to any pediatrician or GP. There are options, including "supervised shot" (given in the office or ER with patient sitting there for 2 hours) and premedication with antihistamine, or intradermal vaccine, which costs a lot but tolerated much better by many allergy sufferers.
