For those awaiting acceptance letters from Northern Illinois University

Published

My question to all of you that applied for this year, what is your GPA?I am trying to find out how competitive the program is this year. The waiting game on the acceptance letter is killing me and I have heard we wont find out til end of March.

My GPA for the pre-req courses is a 3.0 . I know that is not the best, but I have a friend that goes there and her GPA was lower than mine, and she was admitted to the nursing program this past fall.

Thanks for your response.

OMG now I am really freaking out! I was advised last summer to apply to NIU for this spring as just a general student and take at least one class so that I could help my odds of getting in by being considered a current student. I'm taking an online class and I had to drive out to Dekalb to submit the current student app in person but I haven't received anything in the mail yet....

100 transfers, really? That would be amazing.

Reese- who did you speak to? Someone in the actual nursing department? I've spoken with just thre regular transfer admissions advisor a few times in the past and they to know nothing...

For those who are current NIU students, let us know when you get your letter! =)

I spoke with a woman named Delores. She is within the nursing department. She takes all of the information that everyone sends in (NIU students and transfers), gathers it, and sends it to the nursing committee for review. This is where I was able to ask her a few questions, and as stated above, is what she told me.

Thank you so much for finding out that information!

I just attended a transfer admissions chat and they told me 40 students are accepted. But, the ones in the chat were NOT from the nursing department. A few other things from the chat.... pre-req GPA is *THE* most important thing. Also, she said being a CNA helps. They also said they have not started mailing acceptance/denial letters, and will do so at the end of April. Again, the counselors on the chat were NOT from the nursing department ~ but I just wanted to pass on what I was told. I told them my pre-req GPA was a 3.88 and she told me I have a good chance of being admitted.

How would they know if u are a cna?

I was wondering the same thing. But my guess would be from your transcripts. She also noted something about volunteering, but I don't know how they would know one way or the other if you volunteered your time somewhere.

Anyone else having problems logging in to their NIU mail?

Well, it's finally April. Here's to hopefully getting some good news! :)
