For those awaiting acceptance letters from Northern Illinois University

Published

My question to all of you that applied for this year, what is your GPA?I am trying to find out how competitive the program is this year. The waiting game on the acceptance letter is killing me and I have heard we wont find out til end of March.

My GPA for the pre-req courses is a 3.0 . I know that is not the best, but I have a friend that goes there and her GPA was lower than mine, and she was admitted to the nursing program this past fall.

Thanks for your response.

I got a 115 on it i believe, and I really dont think they care too much about it becuase they want you to get a 79 so I just think they want to see if you can pass with college reading you know

OMG you guys scared me for a moment. I saw karebear post regarding the Accuplacer test and I thought for sure they were not going to review my transcripts because I did not take the test. I went on NIU's website, and it says if you already have a Bachelor's you are exempt from the test. Thats a relief!

All my eggs are currently in the NIU basket at the moment, but that's only because I'm not completely done with my pre-requisites and there aren't a lot of other programs that I would be eligible apply to. I will be applying to everything I possibly can next time around (including NIU again) if I don't get in this time.

Didn't mean to scare you, Reese =)

Good job on the test, Future.

Willow, I'm doing exactly what you are.

I heard at least 6 people in my chem lab tonight talking about how they applied to NIU ~ we've got a lot of competition!

NIU is just so appealing to me because the application process is easy and there aren't any entrance tests. Plus, you come out with a BSN by only taking one more semester. The community college I would apply to requires you to take the PAX-RN and I've heard it's tough.

Oh, and does anyone know what the nursing commitee sees in regards to transfer grades? When I log on to MyNIU, I can see all the classes that were rejected (which were quite a few) and accepted. Does the nursing committe just see what was accepted or are they able to see all of it? SIX of my classes were rejected, which 4 of the 6 were A's and the other 2 were B's. I took sociology through a telecourse class (big mistake) and got a "C", but retook it the very next semester and got an "A". My "A" was rejected because I earned a "C" or better the first time I took it. So, that's why I was wondering if anyone knew if they would still be able to see my "A" or if NIU prepares some type of special report to send over to nursing......

Karbear,

I just checked my transfer grades and I had the same issue. I figure if the class was rejected, why would the nursing committee evaluate it when there is already a grade to view (your C). I guess the only other answer I can give you is try calling the nursing department and ask them. Maybe they will have a different answer than me.

I wish I had a better answer sometimes than "I don't know" about all this nursing application business. :p I'd be curious to to hear the answer though.

I just wanted to give another update. I wrote an email to what I thought was the nursing department last week asking a few questions, mostly wanting to know how many people applied and when letters would be sent out. Well, I received an email back stating that I wasn't contacting the correct person, but my email was forwarded on to several different people. So, I keep getting emails from different people anwsering my questions lol. Here is one I just got:

I'm pleased to learn of your interest in the Nursing Program at NIU. Admission to the program is very competitive with several hundred applicants competing for limited space. We are in the middle of our application review. If you applied for admission for fall 2012, we will be sending responses to everyone as soon as possible. Hopefully all mail will be sent by the end of April. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Not sure if someone asked this or answered this already, but do we know how many seats are available per semester?

I've heard two different things. I've heard 70 per start date (so 140 total) and I've also heard 80 per start date (so 160 total). Not sure which one is correct though.

140 total (70 per start date) was what I've heard/read.
