FL NCLEX... failed 3 times

Hello all... Just curious if there is anyone out there that has taken the FL boards more than 3X and not passed? Has anyone decided to go out of state and then take them again? Or did you do the remediation class and then take them in Fl again?

Just trying to find out what people have done in FL. I hear there are only a couple of states that do the remediation class like FL??? VERY expensive.

The NCLEX is actually a national exam, it is not a state board specifically. There are actually quite a few states that require additional coursework be done if you have not passed after three attempts.

And please be aware that even if you go thru another state to take the NCLEX exam, and then try to endorse to FL; they will not permit you to do that.

You have no choice but to do the classes in FL if you plan to work there.

I have a quick question...If I get my RN license in California, can I use that license to work in Florida or do I have to take the exam again or take some certain classes??? The reason why I ask this is that after I get my RN license in CA, i'm planning on moving to FL and working there for a couple of years to be with my girlfriend who still is in nursing school.

All you do is endorse and meet Fl requirements. NCLEX is a national exam

Is this true? Where can I find this information? I have not ever heard this before. In fact, my instructors from school told me that nurses in FL have done this before: failed boards 3 attempt then gone to Ga, and then endorsed it back in Fl. ... How will I find out this info? Please advise. Send a PM if you want or post it here.

I appreciate the advice. I have not taken my boards the third time yet. I restest in June, but, maybe I should switch to Ga BON now if this is the case? I know a friend of mine who didn't pass the second time that is now taking it in Ga. She is not taking it here now...

Yes, NCLEX is a national nursing exam..... NCLEX is the same nationally.

however, FLORIDA is not listed as a "compact" state nor is California. Depending on the what state you want to apply for license... if you are already a nurse from another state, you can apply for RECIPROCITY. You don't have to take the exam again, it's only a one time thing if you passed. You have to pay a RECIPROCITY fee... $100 something I believe in Florida.

We do not have license reciprocity in the US any longer, that is what it was called when the states each had their own exams. You will only find an application that is called License by Endorsement and that is what is needed to be used, it is essentially the same as applying again and even submitting transcripts etc. Only the NCLEX exam has reciprocity, meaning that the results of it are valid in the entire US and you do not need to retest.

If one moves from a state where they had a compact license, then the compact part of it becomes null and void, and no longer valid for any other states.

Florida requires additional coursework if you have not passed the exam after three attempts. In oder to endorse to any state, you need to meet their requirements. If you have already tried the three times for FL and then go to another state, they are still going to be looking to see if the required coursework was completed.

Getting a license in another state and then trying to endorse it back to the original state still requires that you meet the requirements for the new state.

This is what happens in any state.

It is not a point of believing me or anyone else here, or even your instructors about this, if you have questions on it, contact the BON directly in Florida and see what they tell you. Always best to get it direct from the source and states do make changes in their rules all of the time.

Remember that only the NCLEX exam has reciprocity, you need to meet the requirements for the new state where you wish to get licensed and then also to get the license in the original testing state, those requirements need to be met.

Just to give you an idea.As with my case,i took the New Jersey boards several times alrdy.After the 3rd attempt,they require me to take a remediation class in order for them to allow me to take the boards the 4th time.

So you have to check first coz' it really depends on what state you are.
