Wow, I gave my first medication out and also gave my first SQ injection. I was so nervous my hands were a little shaky, but it went smoothly. I have the best clinical instructor. She is very patient and she was open to us having the experience as long as she was present. She made me feel less nervous and even though there were several students watching me, I did it!!
Even the nurse that I was shadowing was terrific. She verbally walked me through the procedure giving me pointers of how she does things, and she told me at the end of the shift she thought I will be a great nurse.
I am feeling much better about clinicals. Some of you who have seen me on the boards before, know that I have had my moments of self doubt over clinicals.
Thank goodness there are some wonderful nurses who are kind and willing to be teacher/mentor to us newbies. You are the best!!!

Congratulations! It's a great feeling isn't it? It's always nice to be surrounded by supportive people to give you encouragement (especially if it's the patient telling you you will be a great nurse too!)

I also give po and SQ first time today ...PO meds. are done in good way but SQ i am getting a hard time. i didn't do well on SQ.one older adult have so much wrinkles, no elasticity of skin, we can say no muscles and i have to give SQ. i was so nervous, tense. when i pinch it, it's like all skinfold i have and there was also my fault too that i pinch but not get good visualization to dart the point and i dart but slowly, gently ....the needle just touch the skin, not goes inside. oh my goodness. i am like afraid, heartbeat up, sweating my hands, feel cold. but second time i did it well.
Then another SQ, i lose my confidence and afraid that i am not going good this time too. but i did all procedure well ... when i dart the point, i don't know what happen to me and i pull it out without giving it...big mistake because of all it losing confidence.
My instructor is good. she encourage me and told me that "I can do it." let's see what happen. but i am so nervous right now. i never forget this day in my life.
