Today was my first day of biology, and it wasnt what i expected it to be. I knew it wasnt gonna be easy, but i didnt think it was gonna be this challenging:bugeyes:. It was very interesting though!! I always liked science in high school. I am aiming for a B+ the least. Is anyone taking Biology if so please let know so we can compare notes. And if anyone already took Biology please give me some tips on how to get the B+ i want so dearly:redpinkhe. After this i plan on taking Anatomy. So Any Infomation is greatly appreciated.

I took Bio last semester and I loved it but it really depends on your professor. My professor was HORRIBLE and actually said out loud that she thought Bio was boring! Her lectures were verbatim from the text and she never gave reviews, also her powerpoints were just illustrations straight from the book too!! The beginning of the semester had 30 students and by finals there were 11 of us left; they were dropping like flies. All of her test were what she liked to call "mixed bag"(essay, multiple, label, and fill in the blanks). They were all made by her and usually she waited until a few days before the exam to type it up!!! I'm a A/B student and managed to pass with a steady C. Some of those 11 didn't. She did teach me one thing though.......RATEMYPROFESSOR.COM!!!! lol I hope that you have a good professor and wish you the best!!:icon_hug:

Hi i'm taking Bio with Chem right now. I was hoping there was someone else out there who's taking Bio as well.
The instructor I have is very sweet and very intelligent but I am noticing that her sample questions on exams are going to be like stories....hmmmmmmmm...
Anyway, the book we are using is the 7th edition Biology by Campbell. I've been using their CD that came with the book to help me. I'm hoping to be able to get an A in the class......crossing fingers.
It would be great if we could get this as a sticky as well......
Hang in there and I will check in often with you ...perhaps we can help one another along.

I did Bio last semester. I got an A in that class. It has been 8 years since Ive been in High School.I didnt think that i would pass as soon as a saw Chemistry, because I didnt do it in High School but i pulled it off. I made allot of flash cards and all I did was memorize, memorize, memorize . I studied at least 2 hrs each night after work and took allot of online test.
You guys CAN DO IT!!!.:pumpiron:

hey there! For me, biology was the hardest of the all the science classes..why, because this was a whole new language for me... I did well.. earned an A.. but I worked for it.. I esp. utilized the CD that came with the book.. great practice quizzes. Check out the website cellsalive.com as well.. great site. Study everyday.. learn the language.. because it will make AP, Micro and Chem easier (I spent a lot of time on DNA.. glad I did!) so my advice.. spend time on this one.. you will thank yourself later on down the road.. oh, if you are pressed for time, try hiring a stay at home mom or fellow college student to make your flashcards.. that is what I did.. (then I brought them everywhere with me) don't fall behind! good luck and enjoy the journey!!!

My first day of Bio is next Tuesday, but I had my first chem class today. As long as you stay on top of the reading and ask questions if something doesn't click you should be fine. You should shoot for an A!
Fortunetly my profressor seems to intrest me already so i dont think i will have a problem with him. And our syllabus doesnt come as a bore to me:bow: (Thank god). I will definetly use the good advice i have recieved in this thread. I do have one more question though. What does the flashcard for BIO consist of? How do i make them and what do i put on them. Sorry for all the questions:smackingf But i completely new to this. Thanks guys

Hi,
I'm taking biology too and using the Biology 7th ed. by Campbell. I'm also taking psychology and art appreciation.
My biology teacher seems to be going lightning fast through the chapters, we've only met 4 times for class and we're already in the middle of chapter 5! I wonder if anyone else here is going this fast?
We also had our first quiz and we take our unit exam next Thursday. I'm falling a bit behind and am having to catch up this weekend. What I'm doing is reading, making notes on her chapter outlines and taking all the self tests that the book or cd offers.
Had a heck of a time trying to understand ionic bonds, and we had lab book exercises on drawing the atoms with all the subatomic parts showing how they transfer electrons from one to the other. I didn't know atoms could be so weird and complicated!:icon_roll
I do sit in front of the class and ask questions too.
Good luck to all of us

I am no where as far along as you are. I wish i was though. So i guess im really no help to you right now. I havent even gone into the lab yet.
But we should move at a fast pace. In a few weeks or so i will definetly come back and see if we can compare notes.
re: flashcards.. normally there are some vocabulary words either in bold, or listed in the front, or ones that you don't understand what they mean. I believe the CD has flashcards, but you aren't able to print them (and I need to have flashcards that are mobile and with me everywhere)
We had our first pop quiz tonight. Now i'm glad i read last night...lol
I did well on the pop quiz..got 100% (doing the happy dance!)
someone earlier mentioned they are already on chapter 5....GOOD GOD! That's fast.
We were suppose to start on Ch 4 today. Our first exam is scheduled for Feb 5th...fun times....oh boy.
After reading the chapter once, i go back through the chapter and write out my own notes. I do this so that I feel that i'm absorbing the material - aka writing out definitions and explanations in my own words.
It's helping a lot with memorizations.
I too have been using the online service and the cd from the book. This helps out much more than I originally thought.
We did get an assignment that will be due in april. Anyone else have to write a scientific paper on an experiment of their own????
