Fired...now what?! Looking for Texas agency work

Published

Hello AN family,

Long story short I was fired today for a bogus patient complaint. The event DID NOT happen as the patient stated but they believed her and I was terminated. Now, I'm looking for/applying for nursing jobs online. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with nursing agencies in the Houston, TX area and if so, which one would you recommend? I am overwhelmed by the search results for Houston nursing agencies and would like to hear personal experiences with them. Thanks for you time!!

Don't live in TX so no help there, just wanted to say I'm sorry that happened to you. You are in my prayers. Granny used to say "God never shuts a door unless he opens a window". Hard to see it now I'm sure but looking back this may possibly the best thing that could have happened.

Thank you for the responses. I'm still in shock right now. I can't believe they didn't even get my side of the story, just terminated me. I agree that this might be a blessing in disguise but right now I'm freaking out just a tad.

This same thing happened to me in June. I feel your pain!!! Here is what I did--I took a few weeks off to recoup. I felt like I had been kicked in the you know what. To make matters worse the hospital denied my unemployment claims, I hope that you fare better. BUT, let me tell you this--I think I will actually end up in a better scenario, possibly. I am starting agency tommorrow night. The wage is vastly higher than my staff nurse position paid. I am nervous about it because I do not know anyone and I have never worked at another hospital before.

I will never work for a hospital again. There is no appreciation. I was very hurt about it also because it had become my "friend base". I suggest you sign up with every agency in your area and go with the highest payer. That is what I did. I wish you much good luck as I know it is a horrible experience.

And when they deny....keep on..... they will have to prove that you were in the wrong. I would write down exactly what happned with times/names....make a strong case.....remain professional & polite. If you do get a hearing this will serve you well.....witnesses would be nice if you have any. Good luck!

Regina, this happened to me once with an employer. It was their underhanded way of letting me go because they were over budget. I just moved forward, chose not to put that experience on my resume, and had the satisfaction of knowing that despite firing nurses left and right, their patient satisfaction scores and census continued to plummet. They are now being bought out as a last ditch effort.

This experience is just another drop of water in the bucket!

I personally would go out for margaritas.....several, and don't hold the chips and salsa.
