Fired...now what?! Looking for Texas agency work

U.S.A. Texas

Hello AN family,

Long story short I was fired today for a bogus patient complaint. The event DID NOT happen as the patient stated but they believed her and I was terminated. Now, I'm looking for/applying for nursing jobs online. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with nursing agencies in the Houston, TX area and if so, which one would you recommend? I am overwhelmed by the search results for Houston nursing agencies and would like to hear personal experiences with them. Thanks for you time!!

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this! I'm in Houston and looking for an agency job as well!! I agree with the others... Drink now, worry later! Good luck!

This same thing happened to me in June. I feel your pain!!! Here is what I did--I took a few weeks off to recoup. I felt like I had been kicked in the you know what. To make matters worse the hospital denied my unemployment claims, I hope that you fare better. BUT, let me tell you this--I think I will actually end up in a better scenario, possibly. I am starting agency tommorrow night. The wage is vastly higher than my staff nurse position paid. I am nervous about it because I do not know anyone and I have never worked at another hospital before.

I will never work for a hospital again. There is no appreciation. I was very hurt about it also because it had become my "friend base". I suggest you sign up with every agency in your area and go with the highest payer. That is what I did. I wish you much good luck as I know it is a horrible experience.

Who cares if the hospital denied your claim! The unemployment people have the last say. They do an investigation and decide if you were terminated unfairly or not. Call and see what you need to do to get the ball rolling on the investigation. Chances are good that you will be able to collect if you got a good story that jives well.

I myself was fired unfairly many years ago and the unemployment office did an investigation and believed me ... ultimately I collected for 6 months until my lawyer got me rehired (also got pain and suffering along with back wages). By then the administrator that truly hated me and had set me up was gone (I hope she was fired for what she tried to do to me). What comes around will go around eventually. Good luck ;)
