No. In order for it to be counted it has to be a paid position.

are you residing in the Philippines while you applied as immigrant? did you go about it all by yourself or did you get Atty Cohen?

I wonder if what's best? to apply as an immigrant first then pursue an CNRE to be license in canada?

I've been reading about canada's nomination program but it requires a relative to be nominated and to get fast attention then I contacted my relative then i found out she's living in quebec... what a luck! I have twisted my french tongue..

sigh! any suggestion?

You should read the thousands of posts on this topic from others who have already done it. There's a lof of really good information here. One thing you should know is that Canada Immigration isn't issuing visitors' visas for people to come write exams like they used to. And the family reunification track is also undergoing some changes.

because they'd been told it was easier to get into the US from Canada than the Phillipines. No desire to settle, just work and leave.

What?!?!?! Geez that is so not true!

Thank you for replying to my post.

About the equivalency of Filipino BScN and Canadian BScN, is there anyone you know who did not have to take a bridging program? How about having Masteral units or Masters Degree in the Philippines, would it help in any way?

If they want you to take the bridge courses, I suggest you just take it. It will help you in the long run and what you learn there might spare you from a lawsuit. You can't just take a short cut and not expect any repercussions.

HI. I found this thread very helpful.

I'm a nurse from the Philippines waiting for my working visa to Alberta, Canada.

My question is: if I start off as an LPN and register with the CLPNA, can I still register with CARNA as an RN later in my career using the same credentials from the Philippines which was used in the CLPNA registration?

Thank you very much!

And a follow up question would be, how's it like living in Edmonton?

Well, right now it's blowing a blizzard and -11C, so it's not to bad:rolleyes:

You can't "start off" as an LPN. The deal was cut a few years back for specific RNs who's education didn't meet local BScN standards. It wasn't popular and it was done to save the government's face.

Work is still difficult to find. The hiring freeze for AHS is lifted but the government has promised to hire a minimum of 70% of local new grads (both RN and LPN).

The demand for overseas nurses is over.

Suggest you come for a visit to Edmonton in mid January or February to see if you will like the winter weather.

heck, today the police are telling people to stay home. the roads are a mess. visibility is about one block.

it's taking about 3x as long to get anywhere.

@FIONA59

thank you for the response.

What I actually meant was to have my credentials assessed by Norquest College, take a few classes and the licensure examinations. If I am successful then I'll work on becoming an RN in the future. Is that a logical/feasible path to take?

I already have job so I guess that's taken care of before I get there.

But the weather is....

16 degrees is already "freezing" in here...

I appreciate your help.

I spent 25 minutes trying to get my car into the driveway after work tonight. It took DH coming to the rescue with the snowblower, a bucket full of sand, some shovelling and a hefty push to make it over the sidewalk... The driveway itself had hardly any snow on it but there was more than a foot of new snow on the street... and it's still coming down. -16C (3F) at the moment.
