I was just told BY A PARENT that there is a field trip tomorrow for our kindergartners and first graders (50 students total). It is 12:20, schools over at 2:00, and they leave first thing tomorrow morning.
I'm going to flip a table.

The first time you make a group cancel their field trip, they become very good at including the nurse in field trip planning:yes:
This happened my first year, it's so frustrating!

Are field trips added during the year? Our field trips are planned before school starts and are on the calendar for all to see. I used to have a day off, but now that I have a T1D, I "get" to go. I would think that a master calendar for the school would help everyone. Never worked public, so I am speaking from my ignorance.

I get left out of the planning ridiculously often. I have been fussing about this for three years now to no avail.

Our field trips are not on a master schedule, although most teachers are good about letting me know ahead of time. The ones that are tough (for me anyways) are the trips where 5 different buses go to 5 different places at the same time and students switch buses last minute for whatever reason. I need to know who is going where so I can make sure the right bus has the right medication/information for the students on that bus.
That's super frustrating. I agree- one canceled field trip will definitely make sure you are included in the "need-to-know" list for next time.

I'd be raising some major cain. They'd be seeing the me really (ahem) Flare up.
A teacher just let me know this field trip was scheduled 8/19 but apparently there was confusion about who was letting me know (blame game going on over here). We are a new private school and there is very little communication being done, but certainly after the email I sent I will never be left out of the loop again.

This has happened to me occasionally. Teacher shows up a few minutes before the charter buses are ready to leave for their field trip, and wants the meds and first aid pack.......NOW !!
Hey, did you ever give me notice ? No. Sorry...but you'll have to wait for a little while when I have the time to get it all prepared.
Totally Pizzes them off !!
In my district, I can't let my teachers give students' meds. Teachers may carry/administer EpiPens only if they've been certified-3 of 25 were willing to do the 30minute training. So if there are any needs at all, a nurse has to go.

It's all about student safety. Too bad so sad if the teachers have to wait or cancel because they forgot about the nurse. Generally the teachers are good about letting me know; however, Our trips have to be board approved so I always double check the meeting minutes to see what's been approved. Other than those trained for epi, only parents or a nurse can give meds so No nurse, no trip and Sub nurses are very hard to book.

It's the same here. I have 30 daily meds and just "love" finding out about field trips just before they happen!
