My coworker (and friend, mother, grandmother) died this morning in a car crash, she fell asleep at the wheel after working a 12+ hour night shift.
I just wanted to tell other night nurses (that are prone to getting sleepy on the drive home) that it is NOT worth it, and I wanted to tell ALL nurses to hug your babies!
She will be greatly missed.

Ali, I'm so sorry over the loss of your friend. Sorry that her family have lost their dear mother and Grandmother. Hope we all take a few more minutes to hug our loved ones, and tell them what they mean to us, before it's too late.

Ali -- I am sorry for your loss. You and your friend are in my thoughts and prayers. I currently am working nights, and will think of your friend when I drive home. She will be a great guardian angel to us nurses! Thank you for sharing.

:crying2: How awful!!!!
I don't know how you NIGHT NURSES do it - so many of them have confided in me how they "fall asleep" on the drive home - or pass out asleep in their driveway (with the car running!).
It terrifies me when I hear this.
One RN who worked nights changed to days when she found herself on more than one occasion on the wrong side of the road (thankfully NO ONE was coming in the opposite direction)
Take care of yourself and may you find some comfort with your family and friends (coworkers) during this really sad time
