Feeling totally worthless...

Nurses General Nursing

Well, I just found out that I do not have a job to return to after I have recuperated from my surgery.

I really do not know what I am going to do; it's almost like there has been too much to deal with for the past few months, and this is the straw that broke the camel's back. But once your FMLA expires, you really have no protection if you are non-union.

Sigh...right now, I really hate this profession.

I wish you well

My father always told me that when one door closes, another one opens.....take it as a sign, that you are meant for better things!! I doubt you will have difficulty finding another job, and hey--who knows, it might be the perfect one for you!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers--best of luck!

Ditto that! And, this is their loss. They will be kicking themselves in the rear soon for doing this to you...:D

Sorry for your dilema. Isn't it interesting that the compassion we are supposed to give our clients never is shown to us?

Anyway, if it's any consolation, changes I have seen people go through in this profession have always been for the better.

Will keep you in thoughts and prayers.

Looks like you have got lots of good references right here at ALLNURSES!!

Sorry to hear about your job. I was off for 61/2 months and was fortunate enough to have a job to go back to. I kept in contact with my director and she told me to call her when I was ready to go back. I'm shocked, with the nursing shortage I can't believe they wouldn't take you back. Lots of luck

Another thing I might ad, I know its a little late now, but I highly recommend disability insurance for those of you who don't have it. I had 2 policies and actually made more money while I was off than I did when I was working. Its worth the money because one never knows when they will be off work for an extended period of time. If anyone has any questions about disability policies, you can pm me

I'd add my advice but it may involve you being unfortunately incarcerated.

I'm sorry this happened to you. A similar thing happened to me while I was in cancer treatment. It sucked.

But you'll find a job, a better one. Farg 'em.

a-hem.. to paraphrase a chorus....tap,tap,tap

one day, they'll look...to see you've gone

but tomorrow may rain, so you'll follow the sun

one day, they'll know...you were the one

but tomorrow may rain so... you'll follow the sun

Fab4, all i can say is, I've seen your situation happen before and don't worry, a few months from now the same people will be begging you to come back--- with a nice raise. By then you'll be able to smugly tell them to pi** off.

Specializes in PACU/Cardiac/Nrsg. Mgmt./M/S.

i had the same thing happen to me years ago..my job was held only 3 months, and i was out for four for surgery (btw, a complete shoulder repair-injured lifting a heavy patient) and i did not receive any salary or funds during the time i was off.

fmla only protects your job for the time allowed by law..does not protect any pto during that time, or vacation..under the law, the facility does not have to provide you with any of your time earned..its their decision.

on the plus time, with the shortage, facilities are screaming for nurses...you will find another one, andprobably quicker than you wanted!

hang tough..

My understanding is you will get well and that is all that matters. I wish that I could come over and pat you on the back. How are you with taking care of things like cooking and cleaning? Can you manage those things or is someone helping you?

Specializes in Critical Care.

You aren't worthless but the idiot that decided to fire you is!!! I would go to the unemployment office today and enjoy the time off. You will easily get another job probably with better pay.

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

It just gives you a great opportunity to get a new better job.

(Also, to tell the former to kiss your behiney)

Fab, this is terrible news, but you will rise above it. Another much better job has your name on it.....you just need to find it.
